Helllo, been having a slight problem with my internet connection since my regrade order from ADSL Max went through on December 9th. According to all the speed estimaters and the Kitz website I should be seeing the full possible speed available for the WBC ADSL2 service.

What I appear to be getting however is barely over 9 and a half megs but the issue is elsewhere. My problem lies in the fact the the connection has become apparently unstable and seems to disconnect frequently, the line to my knowladge is a good line with the phone exchange being in view from my front window, always had the full speed on Max and more importantly a very stable connection.

I cannot figure out what the issue is as I have disconnected the extension cable and everything else from the phone line yet the issue persists, also on checking the settings for the ADSL2 WBC connection seem to be identical to the ADSL Max ones on IDNets website.

My router is a Belkin f5d7633-4 not exactly the freshest piece of kit on the market but its supposed to be ADSL2+ compatable, could it be causing the issues? I do not have acess to another router at present. Included are some line stats, note that my upload sync has plummeted to that figure down from over 1000, any help would be greatly appreciated

Steve

Try the test socket behind the master faceplate  (if you've got one) with a new filter if possible and see what the stats look like on re connection. Your margins to me look low for that low sync and low attenuation. If it still of same order I think somehow your going to have to rule out the router as a cause before progressing on to line faults with support.

Left the Belkin plugged in to the test socket since yesterday and as far as I can tell from my monitoring the router hasn't disconnected although the stats I posted are almost identical, slight increase in speed by about half a meg. Should the sync be higher for the stats I posted? Going to try and get hold of another router as a final test.

If you get no disconnects while connected to the test socket, it might suggest some noise/broken wires in some of the extensions. Or additional equipment plugged in causing noise (Skybox etc if they are not plugged in while your testing).

ASDL2+ is more delicate, so the problem may not have surfaced on ASDL.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

With your attenuation of 10 and a sync of 8mb I would expect the downstream margin to be very high on adsl2+ under 'normal' conditions. If the borrowed router doesn't show a clear increase in sync or downstream margin on immediate connection to the test socket it suggests to me a fault BT's side of the master.

The sky box is filtered but could still be an issue, needless to say iits not plugged in right now, thank you guys for the helpful posts I'll see if the other router has better luck.

Just a small update, got hold of a Neatgear router which seems to be holding a connection pretty well, also the highest sync so far is 18 and half megs. Must have been my poor old Belkin. Thanks again to all who posted with advice! :)

Steve

Good news ,apart from the sync what is that downstream margin now?

Glad to hear! I'd not though of suggesting trying a second box just yet, so you got ahead of me!   ;D  :thumb:

I think Steve suggested trying an alternate router further up. The netgear synced at 14 meg when I first connected it and over the course of about a week it has gradually increased to this point:

ADSL Link                    Downstream    Upstream
Connection Speed    18487 kbps    1171 kbps
Line Attenuation            16.0 db            7.3 db
Noise Margin             2.8 db            5.9 db

Holding steady :)

Steve

if your managing to run on a 3db margin your line's healthy ie noise/interference free!

Well it synced at 19 meg and the noise margin was about 1.4! I assume the connection could be potentially less stable the lower the noise margin goes? I know you loose speed of it increases, wasn't sure about the decrese.
