Some time ago I had a problem with the removal of a filtered faceplate that I had fitted.  A telephone engineer (ex BT) commented that my connection box had not been fitted by BT and was not standard, although it was fully functional.  I am certainly not capable of fitting such a box.  I am now considering getting fibre and am worried that problems may arise if the BTO engineer observes the nonstandard box. Am I justified in being concerned?

Sounds like two choices either they'll be happy or they'll replace the non standard socket (which I wouldn't  have thought is too much trouble)

When I was in the same position the engineer simply replaced the socket without question. Technically I believe you are not supposed to interfere with the 'master socket' but I highly doubt it'll cause you any issues if you or a previous occupant has.

If the engineer queries it, deny everything.

One of my former neighbours was a Senior Tech with BT and dealt with SFI and HLC issues.     One day he got called to "sort out connectivity" at a small flat.

It was a real mess, and even the eaves box had been tampered with - he photographed everything before and after.   BT raised charges against the occupier for fixing the fault.  They were disputed with claims of "it was like it when we moved in ..."   My neighbour was called in to give his side - what he then told BT management meant that they really chased up the charges.   The flat previously belonged to his girlfriend/partner and she sold it when they bought the house next to me.     He had originally done the installation there a couple of years before so knew it was good,  and that his partner moved out it was all neat, tidy and working.
