I am confused!!

I live in Melbourn, 10 miles SW of Cambridge on the Herts/Cambs border.
Can someone explain why a Google search insists on showing me shops, houses for sale etc. in the Manchester area.
Speedtest.net also offers me servers located in Manchester and Liverpool.

Is Infinity Developments registered in Manchester rather than Letchworth (which is ten miles from me) for example?

Speedtest.net gives me Scotland as my closest servers even though I live in Wiltshire (south west)

I used to be in Ireland although now my IP address seems to be convincing them that should be approximately where I'm supposed to be.

It used to suggest Preston for me but now seems to think I'm in London. I think it must be basing it on ping times so connection quality and routing would have an impact. Other services have always known where I am - Google can be particularly spooky sometimes.

Its pretty much always thought I'm in London, its better at guessing where I am than facebook, which is fine by me
