Has anyone else noticed a deterioration of wifi performance with the latest iOS?  Half the time, I'm having to switch to 3G at home, as the Internet just won't work over wifi, despite the phone showing full signal strength.  I'm getting a bit peed off with each upgrade supposedly fixing one thing, and breaking something else.

Not noticed anything different in WiFi performance have you looked at changing the channel on the router to see if that helps

There does seem to be some activity in the Apple discussion forums so may be worth a look , I've not got the 3G signal strength currently to look though I use the 5Ghz network at home which has been ok on the iPhone.

I'm out all day Steve, but could look at that later.  Seems to have coincided with the .2 patch though, so not sure how the router channel could affect it.  But stranger things have happened...

All working here fine Simon. Have you tied a network reset? You will have to put your router details in again but it may help. My iPad and iPhone both are on 5Ghz. Maybe set a  static IP for your iPhone, that may help.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Simon

I'll have a look at that later, Gary.

I think check the Apple discussion forum first before you break your router.

The Apple discussion forums are hell, full of OCD nutters expecting iPhones to be the holy grail. Try resetting your network settings on the iPhone, see how that goes. Then maybe try setting a static ip on your router with address reservation on the Netgear. Those forums are tbh at times mental and downright weird/rude as well. There is rumour of iOS 6.1.3 to block one of the jailbreaking routines coming soon. Also you could try a restore on the phone that could help if the firmware has gotten a bit messed up if nothing helps set the phone up as new. Apple forums at your own peril

My reasoning was that if this was a consistent problem with no fix, playing with the router is a waste of time. I agree resetting the network on the iPhone is not difficult  and the static IP suggestion is worth a try.

It would just be useful to know if it's affecting others, or just me.

I've had a look at the Apple forums, and there seem to be a few with wifi connection issues, but mainly, these seem to be failure to connect, or see the networks.  My issue is that I can connect with no problem, but the actual connection speed is very slow - it takes up to 15 seconds to load a forum page, even with the WAP interface, for example. I've trued resetting the network, but the problem remains.  I'm not sure about manually setting the IP - it seems to have automatically found it correctly.  :dunno:

If you go into your router and to LAN set up you may have address reservation, you can select a ip for your phone so its always on that address, that may help. Sounds alot like you have a lot of interference possibly on the 2.4Ghz spectrum maybe  :dunno: have you downloaded the speedtest app? iPhones/iPads seem to wok better on the 5Ghz frequency I must admit. Have you also tried changing channels on the router, 1-6-11 are generally the best. If the router is set to auto use something a wifi scanner and find the least occupied frequency and set the router on that. You could also add the DNS settings to your iPhone manually, that has helped some.

Oddly, it seems to be a bit nippier this morning.  I'm actually starting to wonder if it's the positioning of the Netgear Wireless Extended I've bought recently, although, the issue was evident when switching to the main router too.  I didn't think to use the speedtester app before, but have just done so, and the results are about average for my connection:

Test Date: Mar 12, 2013 11:05
Connection Type: Wifi
Server: London
Download: 3.42 Mbps
Upload: 0.47 Mbps
Ping: 32 ms

External IP: 91.***.**.**
Internal IP: 192.168.0.5

Steve

Do you have the same SSID for the router and wireless extender? If the same can you try a different one for the extender at least you can see if one is causing more of an issue

They're different, Steve.  The extender appends '_ext' to the SSID, and I've tried both, but they seem the same.

Mine seemed better on the last update which borked 3G but this update saw no change other than 3G works again :p

Probably nothing to do with it but I've not had a working WiFi connection on my iPhone since Feb 28th. The only way I can get any sort of reliable connection on any device wired or WiFi is to enter IDNet's DNS addresses directly into the device's TCP/IP settings. Unfortunately I don't think I can do that on an iPhone so all I get from WiFi is as attached :rant2:

Yes I was looking at manually entering DNS, and couldn't see any way to do so.

What's weird with mine is, after initially not seeming to have any effect, the Wi-Fi connection is now working fine, following the network reset.

It's all a bit of a dark art to me. I've no idea why I see so much of the BTWholesale page.

Thanks for all the links, that should sort my phone out I hope :thumb:

Since updating my phone I've notice that when the lock screen comes on my wifi goes off, so any iMessages being sent to my phone at the time comes as SMS and then when I unlock the phone, I get the original iMessage, so now I have 2 messages the same and the person that sent it, got charged for sending it as a SMS as well just because my iPhone can't keep a wifi connection when its locked.

This is also stops push messages, like facebook, twitter, email alerts etc  :-\

I've reset network connections, I've forgotten the network etc etc and nothing got it working again since the update..

I don't have 3G on while at home (save battery)

It's a pain in the arse!
