In the last month I have been unable to receive mail from my friend at NTL/Virgin, although he has been able to receive mine.

I migrated from Orange to IDNet due to NTL spam blocking my mails because they were coming from the Orange servers, and was wondering if IDNet operate any email filtering which might be causing my friend's mail not to arrive?

Are there currently any known problems between IDNet and NTL/Virgin? Might the problem lie at their end?

Thanks

Rik

I've not heard of any problems, but there is spam filtering on the mail, and it's not unknown for some domains to get blocked as a result, NTL/Virgin being one.

Best thing to do is give support a ring, or drop them an email, and they'll be able to take a look for you.

Thanks, I have mailed Support and hope they will be able to resolve this problem.

I can understand why certain ISPs block each other's mail when irresponsible users are spewing out spam from a domain, but I don't think they realise how much trouble it can cause for genuine customers trying to communicate with each other. They need to find some other way of dealing with spamming than blanket blocking of everything that comes off a particular domain.

I'll have to look for another ISP if I can't be sure that my incoming mail will reach me.

There was an issue with AOL mail when the idnet.com addresses were launched, once support were made aware of it, it was quickly resolved. Personally, I prefer that filtering is carried out with a "mark but don't block" approach. I also make a point of having ISP-independent mail, eg my own domain plus GMail etc. This way, if there's a problem with one mail server, I can work around it.

I think you can see which emails are being marked as spam by using the webmail interface and looking the the 'Junk' folder there.

I found emails from my other half's workplace were being marked as spam. A few hours after emailing support, the domain was added to the safe list and been fine ever since. :)
