iPhone Calender app bug

Today I edited a reminder I had previoulsy set in the iPhone Calender app. For whatever reason doing so left it as only entry in any Calender. I synced my phone with my PC (the Calender app syncs with Outlook) and instead of restoring all my Calendar data from Outlook, it wiped Outlook. Over 200 events/reminders lost.

I've spent hours trying to retrieve the data but it really has gone. To say I'm unimpressed is an understatement but the real worry is I don't understand what happened so it could happen again >:(

It's not a new problem looking around.

Have you tried this?

1
Make sure the Microsoft Outlook application is not open or currently running.

2
Open the Start menu and click on the "Run" icon.

3
Type "outlook /cleanreminders" into the dialog box that appears and then hit the "OK" button.

4
Open the "Run" dialog box again.

5
Type "outlook /resetfolders" into the box and hit "OK."

6
Relaunch the Microsoft Outlook program. Your calendar information will now be repaired and recovered.

I hope you find a solution Zap, as my iPhone syncs with Outlook in the same way.  Not sure the above will work, as if the calendar data has been wiped on the phone, will the sync not then wipe the data in Outlook?  What you could have done is forced a one way sync from PC to device, but hindsight is a wonderful thing...

Syncing with your phone via pen to a calendar on a wall is great, and unless someone burns the calendar it tends not to wipe the data  ;)
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Simon

You'd look a but silly carrying a wall calendar around in your pocket, though.  ;)

You just look at the wall calendar and jot down what you are doing that day or remember it, ah yes the good old days before we trained our brains to be lazy. God knows how we met up in bars when young or went to gigs ;)

Young...  Yes, I remember that.  :bawl:

Given my recent run of luck if I wrote it all down in ink it probably would go up in flames. This week alone I've had two matched PC monitors die within a 48 hour period and I've ruptured both my Achilles' tendons within a similar period of time :'( On the bright side I only have one iPhone to bugger up :thumb:

Thanks for the suggestions, I have looked/tried them all but the data is definitely gone from the phone and erased from the backup during the re-sync. I'm certainly not the only one who has encountered this issue and it seems like it's a ticking bomb that could happen at any time to anyone. All I did was add one word to an existing reminder and save it.

Oh well you live and learn :(

Hope you heal soon Zap. Have to say Computers, yep opened the world, on another note I hate them because they and the internet brings me more grief one or another than I ever wanted. I really do miss phone calls, pen & paper, and just saying 'see you at whatever o'clock' and putting a note on the diary wall, that I then checked.  ::) Grumpy old man syndrome me thinks  ;D

Thanks Gary :) Grumpy old man I can relate too ;D

I've managed to avoid having either ankle immobilised because I don't have enough mobility to get to see my G.P. or go to casualty ;D

Because of another health issue I've become quite (temporarily) disabled in terms of walking. Long story short I decided I would go for a walk each day regardless of the consequences. I guess my Achilles' tendons have atrophied due to the prolonged period of inactivity and objected to sudden use. I must admit that the pain when they went was quite extraordinary.

Thanks :) I'll live, I'm just a bit annoyed that I made up my mind to improve my health in spite of the NHS and ended up on my backside again :rant2: The good news is I've now given up smoking for 6 months and I've lost 20lbs in 4 weeks since I started a diet. The not so good news is that's about a quarter of what I've set myself as a target :eek4:

It would be great if that was the case but I suspect it'll get harder to lose unless I can get into the gym.

Not that I'm so fat I can't get through the gym door you understand...
