Hi all, My service was upgraded yesterday (06/06/13) to FTTC from ADSL2. My new router is an ASUS RT-N66U, speeds are fine and everything works - apart from email.  I'm using Outlook 2007 and email was working fine up until the system was changed over at 9am. Now when ever I try to download email from the server Outlook stalls during the receive process. I can log onto webmail and see all the mail in the folder of each account but it just won't download to Outlook. Have deleted accounts in Outlook three times and re-entered all the usual data etc. The only error report I can get is when I cancel the process which it says "Receiving - reported error (0x80048002) 'This task was cancelled before it was completed'. I've spoken to iDnet support but have not got a resolution to the problem. The only suggestion was to check the Outlook index file, but I don't think that has anything to do with it as that is for indexing email already downloaded?? Sending mail works fine. Any help or advice much appreciated.

Thanks
Az
ps I did search to see if this problem had already been raised but couldn't find anything in the forums.

Yes already tried that Glenn, no change, still can't download email   :(  The odd one does appear after a while, over a period of hours......

Glenn

Have you tried renaming the .ost file then do a send/receive?

Hi Glenn,  I don't have a .ost file, at least I can't find one. I'm running Outlook 2007 (on Windows 7 Home Premium) on it's own on my pc at home, not with an exchange server like I do at work. The .pst file is 184Mb in size, would that be an issue?  Interestingly I've also added a couple of my idnet mail accounts to my iMac Mail and the emails are being downloaded OK.  The strange thing is everything worked fine on the PC until I upgraded to FTTC  :(

Thanks

Az

Oh and I also did a system restore to before I upgraded the service but email problem is still there....

Tried all of those things Simon, thanks.  Now what I did out of desperation, I downloaded another piece of email software called Postbox and set it up with my idnet email accounts and lo and behold it won't download my pop email from the idnet server, _except_ for one email account it does   ??? ???

Not sure where to go from here, only other change when I upgraded to FTTC was a new router, Asus RT-N66U, now would this be the cause of the problem ?

I'm stumped  :-\

Have you tried setting up a new email account and see if you can download from that?

Hi Glenn, I will give that a go but now I'm on FTTC, idnet have given me a stupid username (01670XXXXXX@idnet) and password  I have to use to login to my idnet account which I don't think I can change. If I use my old login name and password I can see both old (ADSL) and new (FTTC) accounts, very confusing I have to say. Will set up another email address and let you know how it goes.  Thanks

This just goes from bad to worse.  Set up a new email address on idnet (using my pc) set it up in Outlook (on PC) as well, sent a message to it from my iMac from a .me account. Still won't download from the server to Outlook on PC. But it has downloaded on my iMac....Mail software.......I give up......will delete Outlook 2007 and reinstall and see if that works.....will back up the .pst file of course....

Not sure what's going on or who/what to blame for all this hassle.........................

Steve

Looks like an Outlook , Windose firewall issue. I think you've proved the mail server functions ok , btw RT N66U is a very good router IMO.

Cheers Steve, but since setting up idnet accounts on the iMac I'm now getting errors on the iMac Mail for all my accounts including the idnet accounts which I've never had before :-(  Things going from bad to worse.....think I'll revert to paper cups and string for communications......

Steve

Have you tried the connection doctor in OS X mail?

Yes tried that Steve, very confusing it is as some of the email addresses that don't work on the pc work on the iMac and the Apple/Google addresses that used to work on the iMac a few minutes ago no longer work  :-\

Tearing what little hair out that I have.....

Well I've tried everything from this end without success.  I think it is an IDNET issue which they are not addressing. Something to do with moving from ADSL to FTTC.  Why have they still got both ADSL and FTTC accounts open and running ?  This I think is causing a conflict at their servers, no idea what, just guessing but I'm really p****d off now with it all..... :'( :rant2:   Thanks for those of you have tried to help.....can't say the same for IDNET.....

Simon

I'm not sure why there would be two accounts running for you simultaneously, so I can only suggest you go back to them to clarify that, which may hopefully lead to a resolution of the email issue.

Good luck.   :fingers:

Hi Simon, Thanks, but do IDNET monitor these forums?  If so I would expect them to pick up on this as I have had no luck with them on the phone or via email.....I had been very happy with them until I moved to FTTC.....now I'm pretty mad......I have to say I've noticed no great improvement in having a 50MBPS connection on FTTC compared to my previous 10MBPS on ADSL  :'(  only now my email doesn't work....

They do look in on the forums, and SimonM and Brian have been around quite a bit recently, but they don't monitor them continually. I'm not sure if they could add anything to your previous email / phone discussions, but I'll give them a nudge in the direction of the thread.

It shouldn't matter how many accounts you have as the email address and it's password are unique and to a degree unrelated. IDNet Mail POP/IMAP mail require your client to configured on the correct port and the correct email and password supplied. It does matter that your not connected via IDNet to receive mail either. What I do find odd is that you get a different response from different machines with the same wan IP address. Which firmware are you using on the RT N66U?

Hi,

As Steve quite rightly points out it should not matter how many accounts you have as it would make no difference to how the email server works.

I have checked the mailbox and that is working correctly. Looking at this issue it does appear to be a configuration issue but there's not a lot we can do on this as it is a third party program so we can only provide the settings to use it. I can if requested setup a mail client on our test machine to see if we can replicate the same issue to rule out any server problems and have it connect to your email account (keeping the messages on server). If that works fine then the issue would unfortunately be with the local configuration on your home network.

Kind regards

Hi Steve and Simon, Sorry if I'm sounding off a bit, don't mean to be rude or anything.  The router is running the latest firmware 3.0.0.4.260. I have not changed any of the port settings for the email accounts, not sure if the router needs port forwarding or port trigger set up ? I set the router up using it's quick internet set up process and got connected to internet without problems. The BT engineer was still here when I did that. Later when I ran Outlook 2007 no email was downloaded, however I had downloaded mail on the ADSL2 service just prior to the BT engineer turning up to upgrade me to FTTC. There was email on the server by the time I was upgraded as I checked using webmail. Not sure where to go from here ?

Regards and thanks

Damn Asus, the UI has a facility to check for latest version of firmware, it kept telling me I had the latest version.  On visiting their web site I found more recent versions.  I have updated the router to 3.0.0.4.370_172.  However still no luck with downloading email from the pop server  ???

Lance

I've never had to open ports or do port forwarding on a router just for email. Not knowing the router, does it have different settings depending on whether the WAN or ADSL port is being used?

I can't see how a change from ADSL to FTTC can impact email unless the router is the problem.

Could you try a direct PPPoE connection from the computer to see if that works? If it does, it is clearly the router at fault.

Hi Lance, I've never had to do it either, just clutching at straws.  I've never set up a direct PPPoE connection from the computer, how do I do that? Do you have a link to how it's done?
