Have you tried isolating components, Sam? What's a lan in the sense you have used the term?

Plug in lan and play games with eachother

So the only real change is that you've moved the system?

If you had electrical connection between the machines, then there's a small chance that some damage has been done on disconnection. Otherwise, I'd check everything is seated correctly (I'm guessing you've already done that), and that the BIOS battery hasn't come adrift.

Do you get any diagnostic beeps?

I get nothing. Its literally light up, turn off. THen does nothing when i press the power on unless i leave the psu turned off for about 20 seconds, turn it back on and it does the same.

That doesn't sound too good. Do you have access to a spare PSU you could try?

I dont have a spare psu

Do you have a machine you could swap bits to, particularly the memory and graphics card? Is the NIC on-board? If not, try removing it (though I have an idea it will be on-board). If you disconnect the PSU from the mobo (and any components, eg HDs), does it power up normally?

Later on ill have a play with it in my room plugging in only the psu and motherboard

Good luck, Sam. Without something to swap components into, I think all you can do is check the PSU with a meter and/or, eliminate as many components as possible by disconnecting.

Can your remember anything odd happening in transit, eg did the box get jolted? (Could anything have got under the mobo and be earthing it?)

I've come across almost the identical problem a couple of times when repairing machines and in both cases it was the PSU. When testing with a meter they registered ok but as soon as you started pulling any real power through them ( by trying to boot up ) they would shut down. But as Rik says you really need to get a hold of some borrowed spares to try swapping bits out. Sorry can't be more helpful.

Ok guys very good news

Dont ask me how/why this happened

Took pc upstairs to my bedroom as i felt the downstairs plugs near pc were faulty

Took the side of laid it sideways, fiddled around inside pushing everything in

Plugged it in and it ran for 30 seconds then turned off...i thought well..thats better

Turned it on again and it booted...erm right

Im happy but still confused??

Could be as simple as something moving in transit, Sam. Even when things appear tightly seated, a slight movement can make all the difference. Did you hear anything rattle, eg loose screw, when you moved it again? I've seen instances where a screw has got between mobo and case grounded a power rail, producing the sort of symptoms you experienced.

I guess you should use a notebook for these parties.
