This morning the POP3 mail server that handles @idnet.com mail failed (mail for all other domain names is unaffetced). Service has been restored to a backup machine. We are working at retrieving any mail that had been stored on the failed server since this morning's backup but this may take a day or two. We apologise for the inconvenience.

The failed server had redundant disks and power supplies etc but it was the RAID controller card itself that has failed. The manufacturer is investigating the cause of this failure. We are now actively considering hosting this service in the cloud in order to eliminate the potential for any similar failure in future.

Thanks Simon - not good news.  :(
