Excuse me, I have a Zyxel 660   ;D ;D

Mine is brilliant, never lost connection, faster speed than my BT Voyager 2100, kids stuff to set up.

Surely your friend didn't buy it directly from Zyxel, so any RMA is down to the Retailer. I emailed Zyxel with a query and they responded within minutes, with an answer.

It has a 92 positive 5* reviews on ebuyer, so your friend must have
been unlucky.

Mine only cost £29.99 including a USB Dongle and delivery from Amazon, I am well pleased with mine.

Lance, good news so far, keep us updated.

No it is my router, bought in April but not used as my Speedtouch was replaced and came back on the day the Zyxel arrived, so I kept the Zyxel as back up/spare.
Came from Broadband Buyer but as it is over 30 days they just send you to Zyxel for any query/support/repair etc.
Zyxel have been emailed  several times, their response is ............sadly lacking.

2 more companies on my "don't bother with them again list".

Yes they have good reviews from those that have routers that are working, but the service when a problem arises is something else.Impressions so far??...............NOT GOOD> >:(

I've just had the most stable night ever for my line. It re-synced once at 12:30am this morning, as opposed to maybe 3-4 times with my old router. I'm hopeful now that it will be on what I call the 'worst case' sync which it will hopefully keep on to now.

When I say worst case sync, what I mean is the sync required to have enough noise margin for it not to not drop below 0 and require another resync. Typically, with my old linksys, this would be around 46xxkpbs. With my new router, it would appear to be around 48xx.

My router when I received it wasn't unlocked, but using the DNS poisoning method, it was easy as pie!

It's still early days, but it looks like the 2700HGV is going to get a recommendation from me!

Then it is Broadband Buyer at fault, they are responsible for any warranty/support work in the first year, not Zyxel.

I will avoid Broadband Buyer, I almost made a purchase from them last week.

I got mine from Amazon and I know for certain if it has a fault Amazon will replace/refund without question.

It's perhaps worth making the point that a contract is always with the retailer, not the manufacturer, and that the company should honour its responsibility under the Sale and Supply of Goods Act. If an item develops a fault in the first six months, it is now down to the seller to prove it isn't faulty, rather than the purchaser having to prove it is. Liability extends beyond the first year, courts have indicated that electrical appliances can be expected to have a working life of up to six years. Obviously, each case is decided individually, but it helps to know the precedent. Finally, if the purchase was made with a credit card and the transaction was for £100+, then the card company is jointly liable with the retailer under the Consumer Credit Act, Section 75.

Lance, it's looking good, keep us updated.

Agreed Rik, are you not going to invest in a 2700 for your carpy line??

I'm waiting for a larger body of evidence. :) TBH, I don't have an instability problem, like Lance, I normally only see one drop every couple of weeks or so (unless there's thunder around!), and I don't get a high error count, so I'm not sure how much I would gain with a router change.

Fair comment, I always think that there is an element of jumping on the bandwagon when these things are going the rounds on the net.

The eBayer's are making a killing, as these were selling for £8.50 each not so long ago.

 ;D ;D ;D

Actually Rik, there appears to be an endless supply of these 2700's.

Any idea how they are reaching the market? Perhaps we could cut out the middleman...

It seems to be the BT business customers who have received one, but are happy using the one they already have.

I wouldn't have changed had my old router not gone up the spout!

Den

Hi Lance, Just checking to see how you are getting on with the BT 2700HGV hub?  :)
Mr Music Man.

Lance

Thanks for asking, Den! :)

Well, after leaving Routerstats running for an extended period yesterday, it seems that the router is far more stable than my previous router. The noise margin was staying constant, rather than jumping up and down all the time. It also appears to consistently sync higher than my previous router, by between 200-300kpbs.

On the whole, if you are looking for a replacement router, and struggle a little with stability on the line, I would recommend giving this router a go!

No problem - I'll do it when I'm at home later. Although all I did was navigate to the page displaying the stats, copied the url into routerstats, told it not to log on using a name/password, hit the get page button (on the third tab along the top I think), highlighted the figure and hit the relevant button (ie highlighted the downstream sync and clicked the Rx Sync button). Once I'd done this, it was able to connect and grab the figures no problem.

I use http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=B02&THISPAGE=B04&NEXTPAGE=B02 but it's posible that this won't work if you have a different firmware version. I have 4.25.33

Depending on your software the following link will change your wireless power. This link is 1 quarter wireless power it takes your your router up to level 4 (100mw) UK legal limit.
http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C05 P...=pwrid&VALUE=4

To verify the changes go to system log
http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=J17&T...J17&FAMILY=sys

You can change the wireless power by changing the final figure.
VALUE 1 (25MW) VALUE 2 (50mw) VALUE 3 (75MW) VALUE 4(100MW).
THERE ARE FURTHER SETTINGS BUT THESE ARE ILLEGAL IN THE UK AND SUBJECT TO HEFTY FINES.
You may need to cut and paste the top link.
This is what you should see on the system log.
sys:  Wireless power set to 25

Lance
