I'm thinking of going for the FTTC Fibre Pro Plus package, and I see I can either buy a WNR1000 or supply my own ethernet router.  I just need some clarification here - if I supply my own, do I still get a modem from BT when my FTTC is enabled?  And can I use a linux machine with an ethernet card as a router?

With the FTTC install BT will supply a modem. you can then connect either a computer directly to it,or put whatever compatible device you like on it, so a home built linux router/firewall, a commercial router etc.

Yes, as long as it can make a PPPoE connection.
