Windows 8

I have been using it now for 3 days. It has not been as difficult as I expected. However on the second day, having loaded most of my programs, on switching on in the morning it failed to work. After much Kerfuffle I had to start with a clean start. That worked but I had lost all my work. I am now up to all my programs are loaded, so finger crossed.

Now I am using my keyboard for everything. What bugs me is that when I use the touch screen I am left with fingerprints all over the screen. Surely there is a device that I can use apart from my Greasy/Dirty finger to work the touch screen?

depends what kind of touch screen it has, maybe a stylus that works on iphones/ipads ? search for "pogo stylus"

but buy one that works for your type of touch screen.

Better still, buy a non touch monitor and then you wont be tempted.

I can't see the point of touching the screen when I can do everything with my mouse.

I've just transferred files and programmes from vista machine to windows 8 machine using PCmoverPro. Everything works fine and it saved having to re-install everything but programmes that were transferred don't show up in add/remove.

I've tried using an uninstall removal software but it doesn't find them either. Somebody suggested that it was because they weren't properly installed after transfer but they have all been tested and work fine.

Programs like that are never good news Lona in my view. If they cannot be found in add and remove the only way is probably to start again I'm afraid.

These programs get good reviews but many are paid for by the company advertising the software and reading some for this software they all sound a bit to good to be true and a bit pre-written. Reinstalling each program again is the best way especially if you are running 64 bit now vs 32 bit from before. In the long term it safer to reinstall yourself with the latest versions especially as windows 8 is so different for comparability. As to why they don't show up I imagine is a registry glitch and maybe file association problems too

If there's not too many, it might be worth trying to reinstall those programs over the top of themselves, which might then make them appear in add / remove, but as Gary said, there's no real shortcut to reinstalling your programs on a new OS, and it might be worth starting again from scratch, so as to avoid possible future problems.

I have re-installed the programmes I want to keep. The ones I don't want are another matter. Is it OK to delete them from the programmes folder.?

It's not the best thing to do, Lona, as there will be other debris left in the system from the programs. It's a shame to clutter up a new OS when you've just gone to the trouble of installing it. What I would suggest, if you want to avoid reinstalling Windows 8, is to reinstall those other programs anyway, then remove them properly via Add / Remove.

Why did you use PCmoverPro when you could have just used the Microsoft mover which was written for W8. I did and had no problems on any of my 3 computers.

Why bother with touch screens just use Classic Start Menu and use windows 8 like windows 7 but getting all the benefits from Windows 8 improvements.

I put the Classic start menu on my back up desktop and must admit it's very good, but I have not bothered to install it on my other computers as I prefer to wait or W8.1 and see how that goes. On saying that I like windows 8 as it is and find no problems with it.

I agree though there are a couple of things.I keep getting the message "screen full" it sorts itself almost immediately. However it doeas seem to take a long time to wake up after not using for some time.
