Sony Experia

Any thoughts on this problem. I use a Sony experia mobile phone and because the Vodafone is not the best in my home I have a Vodafone sure signal set up which give me 100% signal. All G3 phones seem to work with this and it makes such a difference. BUT the Sony phone sometimes has a problem that when making a call within my house it suddenly sounds (for caller and receiver) that we are in a deep bucket of flowing water and I have to hang up and call them back. This has never happened on any other phone only the Sony.   :dunno:

It sounds like a handset incompatibility issue to me. You might what to check with Vodafone to see if the handset really is compatible. A low quality Internet connection (e.g. high latency) can also cause problems but I would expect that to be replicated across other handsets. I can't think of any other reason for it assuming the phone behaves when you are away from home.

I suppose it might be worth checking the Sure Signal box when it happens to see if it's dropped the service. I think there's a light that indicates when it's in use?

The strange thing is that it does not and has not happened with any other phone and the sim card was in use with my last phone as well with no problems.

If you take your face away from the phone when it occurs has the signal strength dropped?

Simon

Which version of Amdroid is the phone running, Den?  Perhaps there's an incompatibility with that and Sure Signal?  By the way, how does that work, and is it only Vodafone that does it?

It's a mini mast that routes calls through your broadband connection. It works really well if you have a poor signal in your property. Other mobile providers supply them, they really are a necessity in some areas of the country. They are quite expensive though.

A post on the O2 forums, from a Community Manager, states:

"The sure signal service is a bit of a racket. At the moment we would rather spend money ourselves improving the network rather than make you fork out extra."

That was in 2011, so their position may have changed since, but there still doesn't seem to be any sort of signal booster available through O2.

I was surprised how well TU Go  works for those with a similar issue on O2 ie poor mobile signal and available WiFi Boradband

The O2 version is called the O2 Boostbox and it's very expensive (or was). It is a racket I agree but these devices allow hundreds of thousands of people to use mobiles in areas that have little or no coverage.

It has the latest software and has full signal in the house. The fault only happens on the Sony, not on a Samsung or Nokia. I'm looking at a Iphone 4 on ebay right now as I like the phone when I'm out but it's a pain when I'm home so I would drop the Sony to my back up sim.

iPhone 4 is fine Den , the 4S has the better camera.

;D  I do but I just want a decent phone that will work home and away. I thought the Sony was the one but it seems to have a few problems, such as when its on my van radio hands free some times the volume goes from normal level to very loud and this has never happened before with other phones. I'm reluctant to buy another Sony in case they are all the same.
