Hello all :)

Some of you may have noticed my disappearance. Well, long story short I went into hospital, and then moved into a new flat. So, now to the question :)

I have decided to get a BT line with IDNet broadband installed. As it's a new building, there isn't a line to my flat already, so I will have to pay the £125 installation fee. However, I would like to be on IDNet broadband as soon as possible after the line is installed.

How quickly can I get the new line activated? Can it be the same day as it's installed? If so, how do I get this to happen? I've never personally been an IDNet customer (it was my ex-boyfriend) so will have a new account, but can't wait to be back on it again :)

Hi

I've been through something similar. What you need to do when ordering the BT line is to make it clear that you want broadband enabled at the same time. This gives rise to what is sometimes called a Simultaneous Provide Order and comes with a unique reference number which you should extract from the BT salesperson. They sometimes call it a start reference number. It has the form of three letters followed by three numbers and then another two letters (or at least it did in my case). Then you call up IDNET and give them that reference number at the time you place your order (not after) which allows them to tie in their broadband order with BT Openreach with your standard telephone line order. This worked fine for me, but apparently it all goes wrong as often as not.

Good luck!

Ahh, forgot to add that when ordering it online. Will tell them that when I get my install date, and ask for that reference number. Hopefully it will work :)

Hope you are feeling well after your incaceration.  ;D  It is nice to see you around again.  Hopefully your connection will go smoothly, why not phone IDnet and explain your situation --- sorry forgot your aversion to phones :-[  Try and email CS and see what they suggest.

That is a good idea.

(And well done on remembering my phone phobia- most people, including social workers, don't.)

You know, I still haven't got an installation date, or been able to get hold of BT. Arg.

Sadly, it seems BT are getting more difficult to communicate with. :( You could try emailing the CEO if you get nowhere, let me know if you need the email address.

I was on hold for an hour before giving up tonight. Will try again tomorrow morning.

I *hate* making phone calls, but unfortunately I don't have much option at the moment. The only advantage of not speaking to anyone yet is that I haven't panicked/misunderstood anything yet.
