Wi-fi connectivity from a light bulb - or "li-fi" - has come a step closer, according to Chinese scientists.

A microchipped bulb can produce data speeds of up to 150 megabits per second (Mbps), Chi Nan, IT professor at Shanghai's Fudan University told Xinhua News.

Nothing new about that.

Two of us developed a similar system - albeit slower about 25 years ago,  but it worked and resulted in an MSc.     Might be a case of checking to see if he has tried to patent it

Interesting, I guess it may lead to further trials of ethernet over powerline as if you think about it the two technologies do somewhat compliment each other.

Oh the internet has gone down, have you turned the table lamp off and back on 

I suspect the router would move to be next to the consumer unit.

Joking aside that's happened to me a few times, usually when coming in from work on a damp cold evening.

Yes, it always happens in the dark, for some reason.

I did suggest to Dulux they should make glow in the dark pure brilliant white but they weren't keen.
