still in the market for one of these and went to pc world yesterday to see what's about.

they had a big windows 'shop' inside pc world with a lady there who worked for microsoft.

showed me the new RT 2 tablet running cut down windows 8 iirc.

i was impressed.  excellent screen / build quality / good tech specs / free 200g cloud storage. ability to stand it up and the way the additional keyboard clipped on so easily was good.

also it had a version of office and outlook which is nice.

downsides - not sure there are many apps in the marketplace in the same way as for the play store on android ?

others ?

Anyone got one or experienced one ?

£359 for the 32 gig seemed reasonable compared to a Sony or Samsung of the same spec.

Steve

No experience of either but if it's as you say the apps are limited is it any use to you!

I tried a friends windows tablet the other day and I liked it more than my iPad. Much faster and easier to use.  :D

You would have to be thicker than an Amazon warehouse worker who like to keep fit by walking 11 mikes a night to find an iPad difficult to use. Mind you if Microsoft made the iPad, or BT come to think of it, I bet you would love it.   ::)

By the same token if the Windows Tablet had the Apple logo on it some would then say it's the best thing since sliced bread.

Having tried both I went for an iPad because I found it better in almost every way and so it should be at double the price. The iPad's retina display was a major factor for me as was the huge number of available apps.

I do think the Microsoft offering generally provides a decent bang for you buck but it does have a number of interface issues such as poor window cycling and the cut & paste function is just horrible. They appear to be quite well built but in my opinion the graphics are sluggish and generally rather subpar.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for. The iPad is a superior product at a rather superior price.

I did not say that a iPad was hard to use, I said the Windows pad was even easier in my opinion. I like to take everything on a level playing field and try it before offering an opinion. My short time with BT has taken me by surprise as I did not expect the change over to be so smooth and I enjoy learning so I can have an opinion based on what I like or don't like not just because it is made by Apple. I love my iPhone 4s and I am big enough to admit I am amazed that I do and don't fancy a Windows phone but then again I use it as a phone and not a toy.  ;D

The latest generation of Microsoft Surface tablets are overheating, causing the screens to dim to the point they are unusable - but it's OK, people, Microsoft is onto it and a fix is coming.
Frustrated customers have taken to the Microsoft community forums to complain that the device runs hot when playing games, or while running two applications at once.

So they address the slow GPU issue by putting in something that overheats. Surely they didn't just slap in a faster processor and release it to the market without doing all the appropriate soak testing first...  :eyebrow:
