When adding a rule to the 7800n router firewall and port mapping does anyone know if a restart of the router is required for it to become active?

I've just opened a port for testing and saved the config, did a port check and its still saying its closed.

Simon

No idea, Paul, but did you see an 'Apply' button?  I was trying to do something the other day and wondered why it wasn't working, then noticed it.  ::)

Yeah, I added the rules, saved config and clicked apply, takes you back to the main status page, rules are there...

Just that when I check the port from outside the connection its still closed :(

Simon

Maybe you need to click Apply before Save Config?  Otherwise, aren't you saving the 'old' config?  :stars:

I'm only really guessing here, as I've not done it.  Steve may know, as he had a 7800N a while ago.

To be honest Simon I can't remember but there were some oddities in the setup menu. I would think a reboot would confirm whether the apparent change in config exists

If a restart dont work I might have to result to the "hit it and it'll work" trick  ;D

Adrian

I think the rule works straight away but you also need to save the configuration to make it stick.

Something that some people may be unaware of is that sometimes if you are told to restart the route, say a resync, all you need to do is telnet into the router at 192.168.1.254, login and type:

adsl connection --down

Followed by

adsl connection --up

This has the advantage that it doesn't interrupt LAN traffic.

The rules are there, config is saved.. just doesn't let traffic through  :-\

I have several rules set and they all seem to work OK. Can you post a picture of what the rule looks liken your router?
Adrian

Simon

I was just wondering if the computer needs a reboot to ensure the software firewall is off?
