It's being stated on another forum that there is a standard fee for migrating from a LLU ISP to a non-LLU ISP. I've just signed up for IDNet and I'm moving from a LLU connection but I don't recall seeing anything about a special fee neither does the first month's invoice mention one. I've emailed IDNet about this but while I'm waiting for a reply I thought that I might get a faster reply here. I'd like to clarify things on the other forum. Does anyone know?

Rik

AFAIK, Noreen, migrations are free. If you hear to the contrary, I'd be grateful if you would post back.

I'm pretty sure that IDNet are one of the few ISPs that do not charge fees for LLU migrations.

Quote from IDNet website:

Free Migration
Many ISP's oversubscribe their networks and under-staff their Technical Services. If you have found yourself connected to an ISP that does not meet your needs we can move your service to IDNet free of charge and without suffering downtime.

Whether this applies to LLU lines, I can't be sure, but as it doesn't specifically exclude them I'd say it does.

I've found this however I don't know the date of the item..........

" Entanet also draws attention to issues now arising with LLU (Local Loop Unbundling) that also need Ofcom's urgent and decisive attention. Under BT's current charging structure, users who migrate from an LLU supplier are currently being compelled to pay a new activation fee of £40, rather than the usual £11 for migrations between non-LLU providers. Entanet believes this is unfair and could dissuade some users from making a switch away from LLU. As part of its migrations policy, Entanet absorbs the £11 charge but is unable to waiver the higher £40 fee.

Davies says: "A key part of Ofcom's remit is to enable consumer choice. The very fact that migrating from an LLU provider will incur a new activation fee doesn't do much to support that aim. This may well have been something that was unforeseen when the rules around local loop unbundling were drawn up, but whatever the reasons for the current situation, it needs to be put right. We can take some encouragement from the changes Ofcom has made with regard to broadband migrations this week and we hope the regulator acts soon to urgently review the situation with regard to LLU as well."

Different Davies, Noreen. :)  I've asked our one, and will post back when I hear.

I've just heard back from Simon, Noreen (one of our Davies :)).

BT do charge IDNet the higher fee for LLU migrations, but IDNet have decided not to pass on the charge as it would discriminate against LLU-migrants.

So, you can relax, you won't be charged any fee.

Thanks Rik, I didn't really believe that I would have to pay a fee but I wanted to put the other forum (freedom2support) right. This sort of thing is important to people who are considering migrating. I'll let them know that they wouldn't have to pay on IDNet.  :)

Rik

Thanks, Noreen. They'll be very welcome here. :)

::)   Hi All, I have been with Idnet for about a year now, and have nothing but praise for them, you do not go to India if you need help, nothing against India, but it can be difficult sometimes to get yourself understood, your help comes from England, Good luck.with Idnet..

Rik

Welcome to the warm glow which is IDNetters. :) These days, customer service is often delivered as an afterthought it seems. It's nice to be with a company which bucks the trend - we don't often need to contact them, but when we do, we know they'll be there for us.
