Hello all,

Did anyone just have a ten/fifteen minute drop in connection?  Just curious as to whether it was just little old me!  :)

Cheers,

Moonshine.

BrianM

Nope, not here near Leeds, been on line since 1300.
Brian

Take care of all your memories. For you cannot relive them.

Moonshine

Okay, thanks for that.  Maybe it was just my turn to have a little glitch today!  ;D

It seems to be all sorted now anyway.

pctech

Could have just been something at the exchange.

joe

Just a bit! What was that all about?

Steve

I think that's likely to be a localised BT issue!

My connection has gone completely yesterday, i am guessing its a local fault rather than linked but now I seem to have to wait up until Wednesday for BTOR to look at it and hopefully fix it (line is completely dead). Can't believe one has to wait 5 days for something that was likely the mistake of BT in the first place! My TBQM capture the moment it was d/c;

You are lucky, if BTOR are really busy it can be a couple of weeks some times

Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Well i hope that is not the case especially as it's was probably their fault in the first place. Whats kind of annoying is there is now way to track what is going on!

I know it's really annoying having had such problems regularly in the past. But that's the service we pay for, so blame the Government or the regulators. All I can say is that if you've never had anything go wrong in your life before then count yourself very lucky! (What's the usual price of (or commercial insurance against) a call-out/labour charge, and how much do OpenReach receive as their share of your monthly subscription/line rental?). Most of us don't have a magic wand. And as a residential customer I've had Openreach engineers attend to faults on both Saturday and Sunday, and as it's your ISP that is Openreach's customer (thanks, regulator again) not you, you could usefully be asking what they've done/are doing to press the matter? And have you noticed the weather lately?

I'm sure people are aware, or can work out for themselves their view on Openreach/ISP's/insurance etc. Also everyone has their own view of what is value for money, and what is the expected service level they require, thats why we have choice within any given market. You don't need to keep pointing out out how lucky we all are that anything works or we even get service at certain price points ad infinitum. ;)

BTOR are pretty good, IDNet do manage to get engineers out quite quickly, I have a friend who is a BTOR engineer and they generally get to you as fast as possible unless something unforeseen happens and they get pulled off a job. It may not even be BT's issue. Many roadwork teams cut though cables, as well as cable theft which is on the rise sadly.

Umm fair enough i guess that could be the case, although i assume that the workload on BTOR is limited at the weekends, and i assume work on sundays is limited. It would be good if BTOR could provide updates as to if its even being looked at yet, and the eta for fixing the issues.

BTOR Engneers work a six day week so Saturday they are pretty busy. They cant really give you an update till they have been out and seen whats going on. If nothing is showing up as a major fault it could be anything between you and the cab/exchange. They need to see what's going on when they get there, so they cant really guess. Sunday is a day of rest even for BT engineers  ;)

Oh, does that mean we can close the forum on Sundays?  :woot:

Something a lot of people don't realise is that BT will pay compensation for line faults assuming you rent the line from them. I don't know at what point it kicks in or how they calculate it but I do know you won't get it unless you ask for it after the fault has been rectified. I can also tell you from experience it's not an insignificant amount. As far as I'm aware no other provider do this.

I know they do for voice faults, but does that apply to broadband too?

Well to my surprise an open reach engineer appeared this morning, I asked him about my connection and he claimed no knowledge and that he was he to install a new connection, raising my suspicions my line has been disconnected for someone else's new connection? I am surprised they don't even combine call outs that are close to each other, but then that I guess depends on it's priority, especially when compared to installing new lines

Steve

It wouldn't surprise me if they are connected I'll bet BT were looking for a spare line!

Well the finally sorted it out today, the BTOR actually rang me up! He hesitated to mention what the issue was and simply said it was a "wiring issues in the exchange", so my suspicion remains! Still my line has either got shorter or there is less interference on it as the noise level has dropped and the sync rate is higher then before so i can't really complain.

It does seem the packet loss issue has arisen again through looking at my TBQM.

Baz

just caught up with this and I had just a couple of short drops but at 10am them just after noon.

since then my normally high minimum latency has dropped so that might be good  :) and since ive just checked TBB for this ive noticed its increased my speed a tad.  Should keep my mouth shut really

Lance

I think you should too, Baz. :)
