windows 8 intermittent email problems

Frequently when sending an email message I get a send error:

Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: SMTP server SMTP.outitgoes.com is unknown. The server may be incorrectly configured. Please verify that your SMTP server settings are correct and try again.

After a while it will work, this sometimes takes a few minutes of fails again.
I cannot ascertain the problem, it is driving me mad! :mad:

It always works fine  on newsgroups, so it must be something to do with my set-up on mail. However it is identical to when I used Windows 7 with no problems.
Any suggestions welcomed, even if it is to tell me I'm thick!
Nothing is perfect, not even my ignorance!

Haven't we had this before?  What's the email client (or is it webmail), and who / what is the service provider?  Maybe you need to be asking them if they're having problems with their smtp server?

Either a DNS error, or a server error I reckon.
