Yesterday someone broke the Internet! Was it you? Somewhere, someone plugged in his router/computer and it broke the internet. Everything was fine with 511,999 routes until that point.

Apparently the global routing table hit 512,000 routes which is an inbuilt limit for many common routers and switches. This resulted in a lot of routing issues. I've no idea if it effected IDNet but it certainly effected a data centre I use as the attached graph shows. Firstly there was a dip in traffic a around 9.00am followed by a couple of router reboots to apply a fix 30 minutes later.

We had a lot of problems between 0700 - 1100 accessing the internet for our work calls yesterday.

It wasn't 512,000 routes but 219 = 524,288 routes.

Clive

I've been using Sky all this week but back on IDNet tonight.

I don't know about anyone else but I'm having a lot of trouble using the Internet today. I'm fairly sure it's linked to the 512K problem because it's so intermittent. One minute Google returns an almost instant search and then the next search takes over a minute.
