I recently purchased a 10 DVD set on eBay to be a present (requested).  I wanted to check them before giving.  A bit of searching led to VSO Inspector which worked fine on one of my music DVDs. However when I checked the first of the 10 it came up with an error that it could not read the disc, no help visible :dunno:. I put the DVD in my player and it worked fine. I do not want to sit through hours of violence etc. but would still like to quickly check. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it really worth the effort? I've never had an issue with a shop brought DVD, and I've had a few!

If no visible scratches, and no obvious discolouration (not heard it from a DVD but it's theoretically possible for the foil to separate/rust) then it will be fine.
If it's sealed perfect, if used it's down to how scratched they are.

Best leave them alone and just wait to see if they work if unsure.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Many copy protection schemes put in "unformatted" sectors to frustrate copiers. Those sectors are never accessed by the real content, so don't affect playback.
