Belkin modem router Help please

I have a Belkin F5D 9630-4 modem router, it set up and connected to Idnet without problems, I also set a wireless network to my laptop without a problem, speed is OK ,  but there is a row of LED's on the router  as follows
1/ power
2/3/4/5 LAN connection's (1 in use)
6/ wireless active
7/ phone line connected
8/picture of the globe

The one with the picture of the globe I assume means the connection to the web is active but why does it flash continually? what does it mean?.
   The instructions are no help, they say all lights should be continually on
and only flicker when activity is sensed.
   Has anybody used one of these and found the same and can they please advise me?

I haven't used a Belkin router, but I'm guessing that flicker is just normal 'net traffic that goes on all the time, eg time sync, 'keep alive', possibly mail checks etc.

My Netgear used to do it, especially when there was an active wireless connection.

If you're concerned, check your traffic on the customer accounts page for levels you think are odd, and possibly run something like NetMeter to watch local traffic. (I'm assuming you have used WPA or WPA2 security?)

If it was just a flicker I would agree, but it's a continuous regular 2 per second flash, even when both computers are switched off, I have not yet enabled the security.

You need to enable security as a matter of urgency, unless you are miles from your nearest neighbour. You could be seeing someone piggy-backing your connection without it.

I agree... I never thought I needed security on my wireless as we barely seem to get a signal at the other side of the house, let alone at a neighbours house...

I just noticed yesterday however that there were 7 clients in the DHCP Client List and only 6 PC's in the house, set up WAP right away.

Preferably with a 20-63 character key.

Got in touch with Belkin customer service, an Indian gentleman with very poor English said to contact Idnet and ask them to confirm my user name and password, then call him back and he could resolve the problem,  does any of this make sense to you?

Not really, tbh. If there was an issue with your username/password, you wouldn't be able to access the web. This appears to be more likely an issue of security settings.

My Belkin router does exactly the same, I put it down to net traffic like Rik says.

The light to watch is the wireless one, if your computers are off and this flashes on/off fast then someone is using your connection. Make sure you turn your wireless security on, it is a simple process and could save you money

Thanks for that Lozcard, puts my mind at rest.
My router seems to get quite warm on the bottom, does yours ? I tend to leave mine switched on all the time , but I still worry.

Mine is also kept on all the time and it does run warm.

I've had it now for 2 years plus and its been fine.

I think Belkin give them a lifetime guarantee so nothing to worry about.

They replaced my last router FOC because the wireless mode started playing up.
