Hey all,

thought id run my idea for a upgrade to my current PC by you, as im not sure wether it all "fits together" or wether im getting compatable parts - ive never, as in, never, built a Intel machine - so i have no idea on sockets, motherboards or features. By just looking around, thus far ive come up with:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield"

EVGA nForce 650i Ultra (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-003-EA&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=205)

BFG GeForce 8800 Ultra OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
(http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-049-BG&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=877)

Also, im not sure wether my PSU is up to the job of all this, ive been told that it is, but its always good to be sure! (580W Hiper type-R)

Do yourself a massive favour mate and DO NOT buy from ocuk

Review sums up what I and others have experienced wayyyyy tooooo often.

You can get free shipping off www.specialtech.co.uk if you get 25 posts (or already have) on oc3d forums

Depending how many drives you hang off the machine, my instinct would be to upgrade to 700W or better and give yourself a bit of headroom.

You can run that off a 580w easily I should say unless ur gonna go SLI - then get 600w+. Stability of the voltage on the rails is probably a lot more important than the wattage rated tbh  :)

Yeh, well ive just found out that my budget is considerably bigger than first thought (as this is my 18th "Treat") - so it may end up being rather different!

RE: mrapoc, ye im aware of overclockers rep, as ive suffered (by the tune of a weeks wait - and a very rude customer services guy) when trying to replace some RAM. - however, buying from them is extremely convienant for me, as its not a long drive to pick stuff up - that said, microdirect and aria PC (Aria being the company who won the er, PC world or w/e awards) arnt far either!

Similar to my current, just 100w more - should be ample i hope!

Definatly go with a higher capacity PSU. If you are going with an 880 Ultra, a minimum of 600W for stability.  Some modern PSU are modular so you dont have all those unnecessary wires cluttering up the inides of your case.  I think the 880 Ultra needs two PCI-E power connectors btw.

Are you sticking with the stock Intel HSF?  If not, the Artic freezer Pro http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-017-AR&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=821 is still apparently a cracker.
