Hi All, not really sure which topic to put this under, but as it's mobile phone related, here goes:-

Does anyone on here use a Vodafone Sure Signal V3?

I suppose, questions are, does it work with IDNET and preferably with a Netgear Router, even more preferably a DGN2200 V3 ?

Thanks.

Den

I use a Sure Signal V1 and have used it with a number of routers over a period of time from the 2Wire 2700hgv to the BT Home Hub 5 on infinity and have never had a problem.

Thanks Den,

Well I think I will give it a go, as the SS V3 is down to £69 at the moment so it's worth a try.

I'll post back how I get on.

Good luck and I hope all goes well  :fingers:

OK. Just to update this thread.

I bought the Sure Signal V3 and it seems to work just fine. It took about an hour to sort itself out with the Vodafone network, but they say it can take 6hrs, so it did OK. Now have a good signal all over the house and calls are crystal clear.

For the record, I'm using a Netgear DGN2200 (N300) ADSL2, my download speed is only 3.5Mbs but I'm only going to ever be using one of two phones on it at any time. The router has UPNP turned on. Didn't have to make any changes to the router at all.  :fingers:

Interesting as I'm looking at moving to Voda largely because I live in a notoriously poor signal area and the SureSignal seems as though it might be a better solution than one of the txt/voice over WiFi apps that seem to be in vogue.  Do Voda tell you that UpNP is a must, or that you need to do port forwarding?

I'll probably get a one month PAYG sim and try a SureSignal before I transfer from O2.  According to the shop I can return the SS within a fortnight if I find it's not doing the job.

Why do you have to buy a Sure Signal, Three loan their Home Signal boxes for free?

I use the wifi app from 3 on my mobile without issue the odd times I'm without a signal which admittedly has only been on two occasions where the signal has mysteriously disappeared. I understand that it [wifi calling] should at some point be fully integrated on the iphone like EE rather than needing a separate app.

Tacitus,

No, but then Vodafone support don't seem to be a lot of help with SureSignals from what I have read. I came to the conclusions just by reading various forums. I had a good look around before I purchased as Vodafone forums are littered with people not being able to get them working.

Glen, re Three. Well that would be good if I could even get a Three signal locally in our village which I can't. Voda is about the best coverage where I live, although no 4g. My house just seems to be in a blackspot.

TBH Glenn, I didn't know that Three did them.  Certainly be worth having a look at.

I thought that both the SureSignal and Three's equivalent generated their own low power 3G phone signal rather than amplify an existing (probably non-existent) one.  The device then pushes the output back to the mobile network via your Broadband connection.  At least that's my understanding.

Agree the Vodaphone forums are full of folks having problems, but many of them seem to relate to earlier versions.  Still worth trying a 1-month SIM and the SS on a trial basis.  Whilst the sales folks in Voda seem pretty competent I would guess that when it comes to technical stuff they're probably no better than any of the others.
