I keep getting a few emails to my idnet.com address which are not addressed to me. Most of them are obviously spam and I delete them, however I've got one today which doe snot appear to be spam.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any suggestions as to what action, if any, is worth taking about this irritation would be welcome.

I think others of us have also had similar emails. If you're concerned about your email account security, the first and easiest step would be to log in to your customer portal and change the email password.

The only other thing I can suggest is to forward any emails which are of particular concern to IDNet, with the full headers, so they may be able to see where they have emanated from.

Thanks Simon, looking at the headers they look dodgy so I'll delete them.

I've had these occasionally as well. Often seems to be addressed to someone with the same initials as me, but not my name.

I changed my password to a much stronger one as I was worried, but it has had no effect, I still get them occasionally.

I've also wondered why I get spam mails, addressed to me and other idnet email accounts but no one else.

Can't help but wonder if idnet has had the email database hacked at some point in time.

I think I've reached a point where I need to setup a new email address. This will be the second time I've had to do it. I'd guesstimate for every legitimate email I received I now get twenty to thirty spam messages but that's not the real problem.

I've now been caught out twice, opening emails that I thought were legitimate which turned out to be malicious. I don't believe either of them were sent randomly, I think I received both of them as a result of someone else being hacked.

I have to admit, I get more spam and potentially malicious emails to my IDNet accounts than I do to any others.  I don't have spam filtering turned on, as I prefer to deal with them using Mailwasher, and it's probably only up to 10 a day, but that's still up to 8 more per day than to my other email accounts.

I've raised it with Support now. I'll post their answer on here.

Thats interesting Simon as I have the same problem but thought it was only since I switched ISP but still use IDNet email accounts, started to wonder if they turned off any filters as I had them turned on. I now get a lot more spam than I have ever done while with IDNet

Gary

I rarely get any, but I adjusted my X-Spam-Level and find IDNets spam filters catch most of it tbh.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Najarak

I looked at sitting the spam filter on my account page, how does one specify this, by using asterisks or specifying a number?

The other question about why I receive emails that are not apparently addressed to me was answered by Simon Mulliss at Support
QuoteIt is actually addressed to you but with a lot of spam these days it is spoofed and appears to be sent to someone else when it really is not.

You never see the "envelope" addressing, only the letterhead type addressing which is purely cosmetic and never used for message routing.
