Download allowances

These seem to have changed without my knowledge.

I used to have an 80gb per month allowance (15gb at peak time and 65gb off peak), checking my dashboard recently it only showed one download total whereas previously it had itemised the two different amounts,(peak and off peak).

Further investigation shows my package as being for just 50gb.

Some clarification required please.

The peak / off peak was abandoned some time ago.  Which package are you on?  Most of the allowances have been increased recently, so it may just be a question of moving off of a legacy package, if that's what you're on.

At the moment I can't remember the exact name of the previous package, but I'll do some digging later in old emails/invoices and see if I can find it - I'm pretty sure it was the only package with those download limits - 80gb total, with a 15/65 split.

Peak and off-peak may well have been abandoned some time ago but my usage figures were still being shown as a split amount as recently as 10 days ago.

I don't see a 50gb limit as a problem, (especially as my son is no longer at home). I don't think I ever get near it on my own, but I do usually check the peak figures, if I no longer have to do that it's not a bad thing.

Unfortunately, customers are not always informed directly of changes to packages.  There was a major upgrade in August 2014, and the latest update, which included increased allowances, was in May this year, and was apparently tweeted.  You'll find the various packages here:

My package was called *Home Plus*, it's been that since about 2010.

My allowance has gone down from 80gb to 50gb.

I'm not sure what I'd change to, the next package up is for 500gb which is way more than I need.

I may as well leave it as it is, if there's now no peak/off peak times it does make life a lot simpler at this end.

I guess it comes down to what you're paying, and if there's another package which would offer better value.

Use of social media does not take up that much bandwidth tbh, since the advent of a 4K TV using prime and Netflix and Sky Cinema I'm now up to 150-200GB a month, browsing is maybe 30GB of that.

We're still on the "Home Lite" peak/off-peak split here (my parents near Aberdaron) as, being on a 20CN (ADSL MAX @ 2.5Mbps) connection with no hope of upgrade any time soon, there's no sense in paying for the newer "add £6" packages.

I'm not finding the change a problem yet. If anything, not having to clock-watch before downloading any large files is quite refreshing.

I came to the forum to ask a question and this thread explains what's happened. I've just signed up for another year and it appears I have also been moved off my legacy package onto the Home Lite. However in contrast to the OP, this means my download allowance has gone up by 10GB! I was also still downloading using the peak / off-peak system so to discover that it no longer applies is great.

To conclude: Idnet, you're too good to me! How can any other ISP compare? This is just crazy-good customer service!

I'm on the Home lite package and due to renew.  I didn't know they had discontinued the off peak download allowance.  I'm not sure whether to renew or not

Apparently there are new packages coming "in the next couple of weeks" - so watch this space. Ther is a big gap between the 50Gb and 500Gb and if you can't make use of the extra speed that comes with the increased bandwidth allowance it doesn't make good sense.
Hopefully these new packages will address that.
