I tried it and got a refund, as I found it overly complex.

Strange, the review I read said the exact opposite and thought both MacriumReflect and Acronis more complex!

Paragon Backup has a free version you can try.
I've also used Marium Reflect free, but only for a single action, as I needed a special clone of a disk.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Well Simon I should have known better than to have gainsaid you, I have just tried the fee version. My head is spinning. Simile ius not"

To be honest, although it may lack one or two features, Paragon is probably the most user friendly.  It has a simple user interface, with a fairly basic wizard with which to set up and schedule backups.  If you don't need advanced features, it does what it says on the tin.  The issue I had with it was that there is no system tray icon to tell you when it is performing a backup, so it is quite easy to forget and power off your PC halfway through a backup, which means that the backup would obviously fail. But if you have scheduled your backups and you know when they're taking place, that shouldn't really be a problem.
