New Fibre connection randomly dropping

Just upgraded last week from an idnet adsl line to fibre, as it has just arrived in our Northumberland village. I'm getting frequent random loss of connection since the upgrade. Support are monitoring the line but haven't come up with a solution yet. I'm using a Archer VR900 and at the moment plugged directly into the BT test socket. Anyone else ever had this? Only thing I can see is that the routers DNS as loaded by the idnet profile is different to what they say it should be on the website.

I had the same problem when I moved home. It eventually dawned on me that the line dropping was directly linked to the amount of precipitation around. The problem was eventually resolved by OpenReach when they replaced the 50 year old drop wire coming into the house.

I'd suggest seeing if you can link the drop outs to a source of interference i.e. rain or something electrical kicking in. It might also be worth setting up a BQM: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping

My FTTC connection is normally rock solid, but heavy rain and/or wind usually causes drop-outs. I'd love to get it fixed but I doubt BTO would be interested because the line will always check out OK except under the above circumstances.

The strange thing is that before the upgrade the adsl line was rock solid.

The previous owner here was on TalkTalk ADSL and said the same. It's also the second time I've migrated from ADSL to Fibre and had problems. The last time it took multiple engineer visits to fix and I never did find out what the issue was as it got resolved in the middle of the night. I would assume Fibre to be a more robust product but I do wonder if the remaining copper is of low quality then perhaps it's more prone to faults.

Well, since I updated the DNS the connection has been fine. Fingers crossed. The settings the router was using were from the default idnet profile stored on the router. I changed them to the ones shown on the website. Though finding the way to do this on the Archer VR900 was a complete PITA.

Doesn't the VR900 get them automatically? Most routers have a setting to obtain them but it should not make a huge difference which way round they are as to loss of connection unless it was just a glitch with authentication and not actual loss of sync. Does the router logs say which?
Damned, if you do damned if you don't
