Hi don't why this happening all of a sudden but when I try to log in,I get a message "session has expired" I'm using Firefox(I have the login saved) but it wont work in IE either The only way I can log in at the moment is by 'forgot password' page and log in via an email they send

Thanks in advance

Simon

Try clearing the cookies in each browser.  We've not had any other reports of a problem.   :dunno:

Hi Simon

My cookies clear every time I close firefox

Strange but I came here without logging on and clicked my user name, entered user name and password and here I am.

Never had this problem in the years I have been a member.Thought I might show you the exact problems I get

Glenn

I had the same issue, re-entering the login details sorted it.

I think Firefox has been updated recently, which may possibly require a cookie 'refresh', but that's just a guess.  The security thing is Firefox telling you that the site is not https, and we hope to be in a position to be able to address that issue soon.

Thank you all for your input.Glenn,I tried that but didn't work for me,no prob though as I can log in via a different route

Simon,Firefox has indeed updated recently causing really good add-ons not to work pi$$ing a lot of people off,so I reinstalled an older version of FF until they sort it.

Thanks again all

Same problem in Chrome... which depending on the version of Firefox, is Firefox (they did for a while just reskin Chrome, but now FF Quantum is totally different engine).
However, logging in from the login menu, and not the quick login above sorts it.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Firefox was never Chrome reskinned it used a completely different engine, Firefox has always used Gecko and Chrome used webkit and then moved on to Blink. So no not reskinned at all. Quantum (Firefox 57) still uses Gecko but is merging parts of Servo which is written in Rust.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Ah, my memory being silly... I think it was Opera that changed from their own engine to reskinned Chrome. Sorry. Back when I was using FF and occasionally Chrome/Opera the only thing keeping me on Opera was that is was not Chrome, and Firefox was becoming too bulky/unstable for my liking. At which point I switched to just Chrome. Hence my confusion, as I dropped FF and Opera at the same time.

But now they now released Quantum, I may look at switching back! :)

I have experienced this with Firefox and Vivaldi.

I believe these problems may have been caused by the work we are currently undertaking to improve the security of this site. Unfortunately I can't replicate the issue which makes it difficult to trouble shoot but I think I've identified the cause.

If anybody is able to replicate the error could you please post the steps you've taken to do so. Screen shots would be helpful but not essential.

I thought I already did that Zapper (above)

With Windows 7 and Chrome, I have had two ways of logging in.

The first is simply a single click on "Login" at the top right-hand corner near "Welcome, Guest". The second is to click on "Login" in the line "Home Help Info ...." below IDNETTERS. A login window appears with my Username and Password (as blobs) already filled in.

Recently the first method fails with a "timed out" error but the second works OK.

had the same issue a few days ago wouldn't accept deatails(time out message) when using login thing on the top right hand corner of the page but if I used the login thing on the bar towards the left(next to register button) that worked fine

Windows 10 and Opera

You did and thanks for doing it. I can't replicate the issue so I needed to confirm that members who are having problems are all using the same method to login as there is more than one option. It appears that they are which indicates a problem in our the theme. I've since managed to identify what that problem might be and I'm attempting to code a fix.

Tried edge and it was just the same as IE,also edge is too un-configurable re the way it handles cookies, big step backwards from IE in that respect

Which it shouldn't and it clearly doesn't which is why this problem is so hard to fix. Or to put it another way, I know the problem is server side but I can't for the life of me work out why I can't replicate it. I do think I can fix it though.

Edge doesn't even work on a freshly installed OS, I have had to launch IE to get anywhere.

You can always use Pale Moon which is a retro version of Firefox and all the old plugins still work. Available https://www.palemoon.org/

I use Edge as my first choice of browser and have never had a problem with it.

I've tried all the others over time but when Edge came along I stuck with it and with every update it gets better and better.  ;D
