After literally years of umming and ahhing about FTTP (mainly due to the cost) I took the plunge and ordered it in December with Zen as the job I started at the end of 2016 requires that I have to be able to work from home if there is bad weather.

I very nearly had to do this just before Christmas and right on cue the ADSL started to flap despite being very reliable most of the time so I decided I couldn't risk it and placed the order on the Monday

The final part of the install was completed yesterday and it is superb, 39.5 Mbps down and 9.5 Mbps up (can go up to 330 Mbps but that's very expensive)

My brother is paying £60/m for a 220/20 connection via BT, he got a discount when he renewed his contract.

I did wonder whether to go faster but I really don't need it at the moment.

The first 12 months are 35 quid but then it goes to 42 but I think I'll try and negotiate that in exchange for another 12 month contract as I have no issue to committing to a contract with Zen, not sure I would with BT though.

The engineer that came was a really nice guy and did a really neat job and put the ONT exactly where I wanted it, out of the way under my desk.

Did you get a router thrown in with the deal Mitch?

I did, it's a Fritzbox 3490 but I have switched back to my Netgear D6400 as the FB takes a lot of space in my 'networking cupboard' (the shelf of a cupboard n my computer desk!) making it hard to reach the power leads of the mycloud or hive hub if I have to restart them by removing power.

If the router dies or gets declared end of life by Netgear I'll switch back to the Fritz but I selected the Netgear specifically because it was neat and also had a gig WAN link ready to go.

The wi-fi coverage on both is about the same.

I've updated the graph link (I had disabled respond to ping on router but reenabled that now)

That's good Mitch. I'm just into my second year with Zen on Unlimited 2 (FTTP ) @ 76/19 Mbps. Might see if I can blag a router as a spare and maybe a slight price reduction. I'm using the Edgerouter Lite connected to the Huawei ONT and it's been perfect.

Can't fault the service and no breaks or dropouts in the last year. Managing to achieve 8.7 MB/s downloading binaries from newsnet using six server connects. The single thread speed did drop a bit a couple of months back when Zen were having a few problems but now it is fine with not much difference between single and multi thread traces.

We were lucky to get it as we are out in the country but en-route to a village. Luckily they put a few manifolds on poles close by us.
