i like to game and pings are ok on ident fastpath

however recently the routing to certain servers in holland is bad and causingupto 6% packet loss

i seein the hops above.net imo they are the probloem but deny it when i email them

what backs this up for me is only servers that have above.net in routing give me a problem

also on my last isp i had pings sometimes go over 150 to jolt.co.uk and quick.net both at same time all other servers ok

and the node inbetween my isp and pipex/jolt was u guessed it above.net

but they always deny anything is wrong, really peeing me off

people i know on virgin or not going through above.net when i ask them to trace have no issue

does idnet have a routing deal with them?

if so i suggest dumping them. as if i keep getting this packet loss only when i go through them to dutch servers ill leave idnet to try and find some one who doesnet use them...if thats possible

Sorry lumi, I couldn't make any sense of your post, could you try again using English as your chosen language. ::) ::)
Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

Hi Lumi

Routing is something that we can't really help with on a user-to-user basis. If you do some tracerts and let support have the information, they can look at any issues for you.

Maybe email support, along with a few tracert's which show the above.net hops, asking them to investigate this.

Well that is not too pleasant a comment, I can understand Lumi's post, and I suspect the standard of english used is better than our command of Lumi's native tongue.

lumi

yeah done traces and etc

used ping plotter and have jpeg somewhere of it and it showed above.net as the first hop that pl occured.

i did mail it to above.net and idnet

above.net say they see nothing wrong.

i give up to be honest, waste of time reporting these issues they always deny it.

and to Inactive maybe you should do as your name says and go inactive, as your post wasnt helpfull at all, you just like to have a dig, go find a flame forum somewhere and vent in there.

the post made complete sense as others have said, ok exact grammar and punctuation isnt there, so what.

lumi

heres one i did

also in game it shows any PL as well

Rik

I got an average ping of 32ms on the second one, that's with interleaving on, so your figure looks OK to me, or am I missing something?

lumi

yes rik the packet loss is what im on about not the ping  roundtrip time

look again at where the packet loss is occuring...above.net

and as i mentioned earlier on when i was with another isp i occassionally got  a different issue with pings going over 150 to jolt uk  from uk and also quicknet both at same time  for a couple of hours or so then back to normal and those traces showed above.net as the problem there too.

they have issues but deny them.

Rik

Have you spoken to/emailed support about the problem? This isn't something we can do a lot about, user-to-user, but they will be able to check the routing and, possibly, change it - it happened before when there were problems in the Cogent network.

i mailed support rik

unfortunately i dont think they understood the issues and went on about ping round trips etc and ping packets seen as low priority etc etc and seem to miss the whole point of the issue being packet loss

Rik

I'll have a word and see if I can find out what is happening, Lumi.

Hi Lumi

The problem seems to be with establishing how bad the packet loss is, and where it's originating. From what you have said, it's outside the IDNet network, on the above.net network. Packet loss is often an issue of server load, and from what you say, it does worsen when the server is busier. This may cause the loss, which for most people would be transparent, ie the packet would automatically be re-sent and we wouldn't even notice. However, I appreciate that, as a gamer, that isn't true for you.

I think the only way forward for you would be to carry out the continuous pings which support have asked for, and to let them have the results. Although they can test from their end (and have done so), obviously it's better that you do the testing as this ensures that the results match your playing experience. It's also important that you ping the servers which are causing you problems and don't simply do random tests.

It may not be possible to resolve the problem for you, you've indicated elsewhere that you had the same issue with a previous ISP, but IDNet will certainly do what they can to help you.

thanks rik

yeah idnet have been great so far

i appreciate they may not be able to fix an above.net issue but if they complain to them they my listen more than little ol me.

or perhaps get a deal where above.net are not involved :)

just to clarify its not the actuall server i contect to that gets worse if more people connect or that would effect everybody on it.

its the above.net nodes that gets worse

Rik

Give them the ammunition, Lumi, and they'll do their best for you. :)

im trying though its hard to do as tracerts and ping dont show the packet loss

but in game i can clearly see it, it shows it to you. nobody else is getting it i play with but they dont go through above.net.

i tested again off peak at 3pm in game only me on server, i had packet loss

i tried a german server and uk one...no packet loss whatsoever

tracert shows none.

pingplotter shows 10% on the above.net

so too independant apps, one in game and ping plotter show up issue

the common node to all this is ge-5-1-0.mpr3.ams1.nl.above.net

it never used to happen when i first joined. 2-3 months ago

its why i joined idnet

they have network in france and amsterdam.

has above.net recently been used to route?

Rik

Hi Lumi

As I've said to you in PM, I know that IDNet are looking at the peering arrangements in Amsterdam, and will get back to you asap.
