IPv6 and Linux on standard ADSL

I finally this weekend upgraded my parent's ADSL connection to IPv6.

The modem-router (a Netgear DGN2200v4) sort of supports it, but not well. There's no controls on the firewall and no support for IPv6 routing controls.

Eventually, I found a solution using their firewall (a Raspberry Pi2 with an LCD screen which has been running fine since late 2015) using the modem's PPPoE pass-through mode and kernel-based pppoe on the Pi.

And yes, PPPoE works fine on standard ADSL. Just keep the rest of the settings (eg. VPI/VCI) the same.

Their rural exchange's DSLAM got an upgrade from ADSL MAX to ADSL2+ just after Easter this year, so I knew it had finally been upgraded to 21CN.

A few sysctl tweaks, a firewall script off the net (to provide equivalent protection to NAT), radvd installed and configured, and full marks from http://test-ipv6.com/

Then to update the monitoring scripts, etc. (LCD status screen, munin-node)

Last task was to duplicate the SD card's contents onto the backup card sellotaped to the back of the Pi.
