I can remember the days when my trusty 1200 baud modem did the job with compuserve.
And before that my trusty 300Baud modem that cost me £300 connected me to BBs's
and i was one of the first with 512K on NTL cable modem service with a modem that cost me £150+vat and £40 a month.
then i was with metronet then back to NTL (as they did 10Mb and my exchange could give me 2)
then newnet as i moved house.

They have really annoyed me as there fault investigation team were not good and said even though i was paying over £30 a month i could only have 256k/2mb even though i am only 3Km from exchange

so here i come

Support watch out!!!!!!  G7PKF is on his way! ;D

I don't get fobbed off, I work on telephone systems and have an HND in Telecommunications. ;)

I try, you should have seen the first three drafts. ;)

Welcome to the forum. :) I'm sure you'll find IDNet support to your taste, they won't fob you off (though they can't solve every problem).

Oh, and I suspect we bought our first modems about the same time. Watching screens drawing at 30cps was a peaceful sort of hobby, a bit like watching the BBC's "Potter's wheel".

Do you think it wise to use your call-sign as a username??

It makes you easily traced, and open to being cloned.  ::)

But welcome to the forum

one of those things that if you add a large attachment and send it 20-30 times and then try browsing it shows how bad your speed is!!!

don't live in MK do you Rik?

if so at least you are less likely to get hit by the BT cable muggers!!

Well the price of aluminum is also at a world high you might be lucky.

Im hoping as i live in a village and the cable is SH**E from the exchange to my house as they put this new by-pass in, my line stats were not good before there now worse probarly due to the extra jointing. not too far from MK just a bit south. ;D

a nice new length of cable from the exchange or even better.....

I might go for a digit, but not a complete arm. ;)

TeleHouse is cheating a bit though.  :P

Nah been here for 3 days now, found an open wireless network and having a lotta lotta downloading!!

Got a bit of space in rack here, thinking about making a server with a wlan card in it and?????????  my own server on the web (with a good up/down speed), wonder if i have any ports blocked on this wlan...off to shields up i go..

no ports blocked excellent now for my cunning plan..

Rik

Just attach a drum of cable to the back of the car and...  :)

Rik

I was thinking more in terms of a fibre backhaul - hauled a long way up the M1.  ;)

I just did a speedtest at work... never thought to do it before..

Date 25/10/07 13:41:02
Speed Down 31200.19 Kbps ( 30.5 Mbps )
Speed Up 74177.70 Kbps ( 72.4 Mbps )

It doesn't feel like that sometimes..
