Sony rooting around again

El Reg is carrying a report that Sony are putting out rootkit-like software with their Micro Vault flash drives. "The Sony MicroVault USM-F fingerprint reader software bundled with the stick installs a hidden directory under Windows. "Files in this directory are also hidden from some antivirus scanners (as with the Sony BMG DRM case) — depending on the techniques employed by the antivirus software. It is therefore technically possible for malware to use the hidden directory as a hiding place," warns anti-virus firm F-Secure."

Nice to know that they learnt from the first debacle.

Sony was once top of my manufacturers list, I would hardly ever buy any other brand where Sony was in the market, sadly those days have long gone, great shame, pity they ever got above their station.

They seem hell bent on further ruining their declining reputation in the industry.
