Need your help

Hi all.

Right where do i start.

I've been in contact with idnet about a weird problem for over 2months now, They can't find anything wrong there end and BT can't find anything wrong there end.

I had a BT engineer come out tuesday morning to check this end, He checked the extension to the router, that came back fine. He then checked all other cables, even went up the pole outside to check the connections there.

The engineer has put in a new box for me with a built in filter, the ones with a seperate plug for RJ11/45 and phone. This has stopped me disconnections from Yahoo and VNC .

IDnet emailed me today to say that they've been monitoring my connection since the engineer came out and my connection has been stable since.

But i still have my other problem.

Whenever the noise margin goes below 6, i can't load any websites. I have to reboot the router or wait to the margin comes back above 6 til i can load a website.

As the BT engineer said, he can't find anything wrong this end and he ran tests on his laptop and they came back fine aswell.

So i need some ideas to what this can be as i need to fix it as its becoming very annoying now.

It sounds like noise is pushing up the error count. Check your RWIN/MTU settings are optimal, but I suspect the only cure will be to have your target noise margin raised.

I've asked for my noise margin to be increased for months now and it hasn't happened.

IDnet has just email me back saying BT has checked my noise margin today and they can see it move between 6 and 8 (which is normal) but doesnt address the problem for when it drops below 6.

The fault has now been closed by BT/IDnet and they've said they can't do anymore to help basically.

But there must be a problem there still for this to happen, I really do hate BT. If they just set my snr to 9, this will stop all problems, as my margin hasn't dropped below 5.5 since the engineer came out.  But looks like BT isn't listening to IDnet.

Often the case, sadly. I was able to request a 3db increase in my margin to stabilise things, so BT can do it if they want to. If IDNet can't get BT to make the change, another option would be for you to use the DMT tool, with a compatible router, to implement it yourself.

Do you know if this model has any problems with noise margins? Was thinking of trying another router just incase its my one at fault even thou the engineer said everything my end is ok.

I don't know which chipset is in the PN. It might be worth trying DMT and see if it will work.

Many members here have had good results with the 2700 series of routers. If you're going to try another brand, that might be a worthwhile one.

I had that router andf or whatever reason it suffered from what I called noise margin erosion over a 24 hr period. Just would not hold on.

Bought a HGV2700 and WOW no noise margin erosion, rock solid for 3 months and thats on a 59dB attenuation

From the DMT website it looks like DMT v8.07 might cover your router. That may (it does on my Speedtouch) allow you to set your own SNR margin.

Well i've done what simon suggested today, I've reset the router to factory defaults and re set the settings, i've also gone back a firmware version to see if that helps.

So far the margin has stayed above 6 and no website problems.

Hope it stays this way.

Not of the website, but the program itself is in English. If you get it running I'll sort out some instructions about adjusting SNR margin.
