Anybody else getting slow speeds, high pings and sites loading slower than normal tonight?

ReDGryphoN

Nope, all sweet and solid

Today (Monday 4th) was a total pig for speed all day, but it's all back to normal now.  :)

I joined IDNet on Sept 1st 06 so this is (sort of) my 1st anniversary.

I'm struggling to moan about something, so I'll stick with BT shoving me onto interleaving when everything was disconnnected over the Xmas hols.

Long story short; moving to IDNet was probably the only sensible broadband decision I've ever made...

Well have a anniversary karma!

I didn't notice any problems at all last night, fwiw.

Likewise, have another Karma for your anniversary, I also didn't have any speed issues. ;)
Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

Rik

I wasn't on line, so I didn't have any speed problems either. ;) Congratulations on your anniversary, Drummer. :)

Back to my normal 7megs and 16ms pings tonight :)

Rik

Have you looked at your error count, Paul? I just wonder whether you had a noise problem which was causing re-transmissions.

psp83

Wheres the error count on netgears?

Rik

Hi Paul

Enter this in the browser address bar:

http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=debug

which should result in a screen which just says 'Debug enable'.
(That's assuming that you haven't changed the router's IP address from the default).

Then exit from the web interface and open a command-line window. Type:

telnet 192.168.0.1

You should get a BusyBox welcome message to confirm that your telnet connection is established.

Now type:

cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats

You'll see the errors listed.

doesnt work :(

I get the welcome screen, but when i type in the line, says it cant find it or something

Rik

If you were using Firefox, try from IE. Netgears seem to be hard-coded for IE.

Thought: If you're running Routerstats, quit that first.

psp83

ok, debug is now on.

I've telnet the router and got the BusyBox message.

When i type in cat /proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats i get cat: /proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats: No such file or directory

Rik

My typo, sorry:

cat proc/avalanche/avsar_modem_stats.

psp83

still the same message :(

Rik

Odd, I've just done it, hence spotting the typo. What firmware version are you running?

Useful to know the command set has changed, thanks. :)

Those errors don't look too high. I'd suggest you have a word with support on Monday, see if they can see any issues with your line.

I'll pop some new stats in an email to them tomorrow night..

Just to let you know. you can also change your SNR with telnet on DG834PN routers, i dont know if it works on older versions of DG834's

Rik

Is it a Broadcom chipset? That would allow SNR tweaking. It was used in the 834GT but not the 834 and 834G.

psp83

Have no idea, All i got told is that the chipset is different to the one dg834+ modems sold by ISPs.

Theres a tutorial online for moding .PN routers. And SNR is one of them.

Rik

It probably is the Broadcom, then.

Just got told that the chipset for DG834PN is called... Conexant... Don't know if this person is correct though.

Rik

Could well be, they've been making inroads into the market of late.

That chipset uses MIMO technology..

All i know is that this router might be the cause of my <6 margin problems. Simon from idnet has the same router and he gets problems that a reboot fixes same as me..

Its good for wirless only with my laptop. Any usb sticks getting a wireless connection keeps dropping.

So if anyone thinking of getting this router. Dont. Get a DG834 v3 as i've worked with plenty of them and had no issues.

Rik

I confess that I'm always reluctant to adopt a pre-standard model - there always seems to be a downside that they don't tell you about. :(

psp83

Well i got this one because of the 108mbps and adaptive wireless... Works around interference and stops dead spots.

Well maybe thats true, but i can't seem to keep a good stable wireless connection except with my laptop around the house and in the garden, Where i am now. Its like being wired to the router (using builtin wireless)

Rik

I'm very stodgy :) I rarely use wireless, when I do it's not too far away from the router, so no problems with 11g.
