anyone else getting VERY slow speeds? i'm speeding along at 32kbps

RobMc

Hi, it's not as quick as usual here in Cheshire (Willaston exchange) but it's over 3Mbs. Perhaps a local exchange problem?

Rob.

Rik

Possibly (probably) unrelated, but I did experience a couple of PPP sessions outages.

Thanks, Noreen. I wonder if there was a Radius server problem last night?

There are also people over on the IDNet forum on ThinkBroadband mentioning the same problem.

Kheldar

yeah my conn has been even slower than normal in the past 24 hrs, if thats possible !  :P

Rik

I've not seen any speed issues, just the PPP session loss. Have you run a BT test to see if your profile has dropped?

Morning Rik I had the same issue as well, on the last day of training as well ::) left the router off this morning for 30 mins anyway, any news on what happened?
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Rik

Did I even need to ask, on the ball as always. Thanks for the update Rik  ;D I'll check back later to see if there is any news, I'm fighting a nasty stomach bug so I have to dash off now and then!  :-X

Simon

I read / heard / was told somewhere that by powering off a router for a given period, something like an hour I think, when powered back on, it will automatically 'retrain'.  Is there anything in this, or is it just rubbish?
Simon.

Shutting the router down for 30 minutes will cure a stale PPP session, the quicker method is to login to the BT test domain.

Last night's problem, though, was a router having a hiccough. Now cured. :)

#20
one designed for the old pace linnet 1200 would be more along my lines !

from the bbmax one Rik...

1203 download.
383 upload.

oh the speedtest site worked now...

Rik

I remember that modem. :)

The Namesco tester seems to deliver results that are reasonably close to the BT test, but without the hassle. I would imagine you're on a 1500 profile, with a sync ~1700-2200?

i had that modem !

umm no idea.....you know not to ask me technical questions without full instructions !

Rik

Just look in the router stats (see FAQ) for the d/s sync speed. The profile is pure guesswork by me.

Kheldar

ahha u mean....

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1824 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 50 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin 14 db 24 db

Rik

The profile is right for the sync speed, your problem is that noise margin, which has been pushed up in an attempt to stabilise the line. It comes back to checking your internal wiring, then waiting for the BT software to start dropping the noise margin again - but you have to be able to connect for 14 days at a time.

cheers rik.

maybe getting a new line/phone socket in the new study in a few weeks will help then ?

Rik

It would certainly be a start. :)
