As posted elsewhere I'm considering buying a new laptop. One of the differences between now and when I bought my present laptop (three years ago) is that they now all appear to have wireless broadband cards. I will not be using wireless as my laptop isn't moved and I really have no need for it. I have no experience of wireless cards and wondered if they are suitable for use with a permanent wired connection or will I have to get a different card for that?

Rik

Most laptops come with both a wired (RJ45) ethernet connection and a wireless one, usually an 11g, 54Mbps, Noreen. So you should be able to just plug it in in place of your present machine.

Thanks Rik. I've a relative who's eager for my present laptop so that's another "push".  ;D

I find I need little pushing.  ;)

As Rik said, I think any wireless capable laptop would also have to have a wired ethernet connection, as if it's your only machine, you would have to connect it with an ethernet cable, at least at first, in order to hook it up to your router.

Thanks Simon, as I said I've had no experience of wireless cards so I didn't know.
