From the company's press reelase:

"Acronis True Image 11 Home Delivers Easy Backup, Fast Recovery and Exceptional Security

Try&Decide; Saving New Files During System Restore Highlight New Features For Home, SOHO Users

September 12, 2007, Burlington, Mass. — Computer users can easily protect their entire computer, including valuable photos, music, videos and work documents, with Acronis True Image 11 Home — the latest version of Acronis' file and system disk imaging backup and restore software for home and home office users.

Acronis True Image 11 Home backs up individual files or an entire computer image to a separate external drive or disc, providing complete protection from viruses, trojans and hardware failures that can cause the catastrophic loss of irreplaceable files and software. In the event of a computer failure, users can quickly and easily restore their data or images to the system to get up and running in minutes.

The new version adds powerful, yet easy-to-use features including the exclusive. Try&Decide feature, which allows users to perform potentially dangerous operations such as software installation or e-mail attachment opening without putting their PC at risk. It does this by creating a secure, temporary workspace that is insulated from the rest of your computer. The user can either commit the changes to their hard disk or simply delete all changes without impacting their hard disk at all.

Added security and privacy functionality includes Acronis Drive Cleanser, which securely erases hard drives before discarding or donating a computer, and File Shredder, which wipes out individual computer files so that they are permanently deleted and unrecoverable.

"Acronis True Image has proven itself again and again as a user's best friend when it comes to protecting their data and operating system," said Mike DiMichele, a Chicago-area consultant who runs a data recovery and remote support service company for end users, as well as the web site Savemybutt.com. "To the average consumer, their digital photos, music and personal financial data are just as important as the business records of a corporation. For a family to protect all of their personal digital assets for less the price of dinner for four at the neighborhood diner is incredible."

"As more of our lives move into the digital realm, it is important that we take the appropriate measures to protect those all-important files and programs," said Walter Scott, CEO of Acronis. "We believe that the easier we make it for a user to back up their digital assets, such as music, mail, photos and data, and faster to restore after a failure, the more likely people are to create a regular backup routine. Acronis True Image 11 Home is exceptionally powerful, yet easy enough for anyone to use."

Other new features of Acronis True Image 11 Home include:

    * Try&Decide — Allows users to create a temporary, protected space where they can do computing operations without putting their hard drive at risk due to viruses or malware
    * System State Backup — Protect Registry, boot files, as well as important system files from system crashes
    * Exclude files and folders from backup — Save space by backing up only information that is needed
    * Preserve files and folders during restore — Ensures newly entered important data is not overwritten when recovering from older backup
    * Automatically maintained catalog of backup locations — Easily locate archives as the system automatically remembers their placement
    * Search for file in all archives — Easily search for and recover particular files from all known backup archives
    * Message-level Outlook data restore — Quickly locate and recover important messages from mail backup

Pricing and availability

Priced at $49.99, Acronis True Image 11 Home is due to ship this month."

So that will be £50 here then. :(

The Try & Decide feature looks interesting...

Sounds good but I wonder about interaction with security software, I'll wait for a few updates then try :-) maybe it will work this time    I am a firm believer in never try version one (or 11) of anything till the poor sods who go get it first beta test it for me, since all software released as final are really beta versions anyway  >:D
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

You and me both, Gary. I skipped v9 altogether and went from 8 to 10 - but only after that had had several iterations.

Funny that you should say that because I'm happy with v9 and never went to v10.  ;D

Skipping a version is good fiscal policy, Noreen. :)

Yes, I might consider the new version "eventually", it's now released in the US. http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

I've just had the 'released' email. Upgrading is $29.99, or £15 or so. Not bad...

At least one person on another forum to which I belong has installed the latest version. They are happy so far and say that it's faster. I'll keep you updated on any further comments.
