Your slow speeds are because you have a low profile. This could be because you had a high noise event on your line.

The good news is that soon (up to 5 days) your profile will rise to the level determined by your sync, either a 2.5mb or 3mb profile.

If it doesn't rise, come back here and we'll ask more questions and try to help further.

You're getting there, Ham, your profile should rise further to 4500 if you maintain that sync speed.

My guess is that the engineer working on your line kicked you off ADSL several times and the line management software saw it as instability and reacted. It should recover by itself.

Can you explain how the profile relates to the actual synch?  I mean the profile seems to be rounded to 500s so is it just the increment below the synch speed or lower than that?  My synch speed, after changing from modem to router and upgrading drivers and more, is now 7904 so will my profile rise to 7000 or 7500 or stay at its current 6500?

Have you tried removing the ring wire, Ann? That can often squeeze a little more out of a line, especially if you have multiple extensions.

I've just ordered a new faceplate so will check the wires then.  It's odd but when I first had ADSL i got a synch speed of 8.1 which fell to 6.7 or so after the first 6 months.  Now it's back up to 7.9 but I don't know why it fell in the first place.  I don't really need any faster speed, it's just becoming a slight obsession now but I'm sure many of you know all about that

My speeds fell off by 400K in August, then recovered again. I believe it was caused by work BT were doing at the exchange, nothing else makes sense (my attenuation also increased).

We do tend to study speed tests with the intensity of a Roman priest examining the entrails!

Entrails often make more sense, my speed dropped after a sync loss last night, I'm sure it will recover when it wants to, I have got to the point that I'm thinking of getting a bazooka and my own copper line, firing it to my exchange with a makeshift harpoon on the end and get my BT friend to hook it up, if anyone complains I'll say they can use it as a handy second washing line or at Christmas hang decorations off it maybe

I tried those once a couple of years ago but couldn't get on with them at all, kept feeling as though I was going to fall over and that was without drinking anything alcoholic!  Fortunately I only really need glasses for reading and close work anything further than about 3 feet away is fine.

Anything further than three feet away I leave well alone, I'd fall over trying to get to it  at the moment with my back
