You are not going to believe this.

I'm trying to sign up for  BB. But sales tell me there is a problem because apparently my line in the exchange is not the same post code as my address, my BT account and my credit cards!

About ten years ago the PO decided that our little enclave of about five houses should have a changed post code. Every thing was changed  and has been working OK for years. Now it appears that BT forgot to tell the exchange.

IDnet sales say I must get BT to do this now or I can't have BB. So yesterday I spent ages on the phone to BT but had difficulty getting anyone to understand the problem. I think I ended in India speaking to a very nice young lady who I had great difficulty understanding because of accent and speed of speech. This is where my personal problem comes in. My hearing is very poor and I have an amplified phone, but I have to persuade the person on the other end to speak slowly and clearly – this the young lady was unable to do. She could only speak with machine gun rapidity.

I got my wife to take over – her hearing is better. But by this time the BT lady was rather flustered and spoke even quicker. We think she said she would get the post code changed, but then after my wife asked for several repeats she said she would transfer the call to her supervisor. This put us back at the end of queue, and after another long wait, the connection, which had been pretty crackly, dropped!

I then spoke to IDNet. My contact in Sales (Miriam) had by then gone home, but the man on the line checked and said the problem was still there. So I shall be calling sales again this morning to see if it has been changed – I have my doubts.

Surely there must be an easier way to do this. I can't go through all that nausea again - - - - :eek2:

Hi Robert

The joys of bureaucracy. :(

I've sent you a PM. If you get nowhere today, try that route.

Thanks for the two tips, Rik. I'll keep them in mind.

I finally discovered how to send emails to the BT service dept. They keep them buried, and even when you have found them they make the questionair difficult. three times i entered my account number exactly as printed on my last invoice to be rejected each time. after another two or three goes I finally hit the jackpot by omitting the spaces. I now have a receipt number for the "enquiry". I am slowly advancing. They say they are very busy, being snowed under by applications for their BB.

I've agreed with Tim in ID service to leave it a few days to see if BT sort themselves out.If they don't do it, he says he is quite prepared to push my application through using the old post code. It's possible this could lead to trouble in the future so I have my doubts about that route.

I find the best way to contact BT and get results is to go via their BT.com website and go to AT Home then make contact via email with the telephone faults contact.  Hope this is helpful.  I never use BT phone help as it gets you nowhere at all but can increase the blood pressure. ;D

It's good advice from Alf, Robert - when it comes to BT it is rarely good to talk. :(

Good luck with the order. TBH, I don't know why their so fussed with the post code, they don't use it to route the cable, after all!!

Today I had to talk to BT RedCare Dept' concerning a customers alarm system. They were so helpfull and full of good advice. They did a line check for me and phoned me back within 5 minutes with the result. Why can't all BT Dept' work to the same high standard.

Cavillas was right. Email to BT is best.

Got an email reply to my enquiry this morning. My post code mix up has been sorted. With apologies for inconvenience caused.

Hooray!!!!!   now my BB order can go forward!!!!    :beer1:

I only used the phone to BT because ID sales gave me the number and told me that was the way to go. Normally I try to avoid using the phone because of hearing problem

Still, alls well that ends well. Lets hope it continues that way.

Robert.
