Web space question

This post is copied from the f2support forum, from a possible new IDNet customer. It's in answer to my post recommending IDNet and I can't answer it as I know nothing about using web space. Any answers please................

"I had looked at that page but it doesn't detail what's included (if anything) with the web space (ie. MySQL etc.) so I suspect it's space and nothing more. I might drop them an email."

It's 'bald' webspace. PHP, MySQL etc is available with IDNet, but only with normal hosting packages, not the free space.

so is the space provided useless, the info says it can be used for your own web or blog.
one of the reasons i am migrating here. as i have a few sites and wanted everything in one place $:-\$

Define useless...

If you want to host a simple website, to hold photos etc, then the free space is fine. If you want to do more complex things involving PHP etc, it will be no good to you.

i was hoping there was php,mysql support on the space. is it possible to upload a site from Fusion or similar?

In the sense of upload, yes. It's also possible to download, but as that means giving out your username and password, you might not be too keen on it.

It does support ftp but as Rik says it is purely an HTML site. There is no php, mysql, Perl or any other server side support, but i believe you can run jscript stuff. Perfectly fine for majority of people who just want to have a personal web presence with none of the other more difficult stuff. The blog space is adequate too, if you want a blog area for your own use.

You'll get 1GB on Lite, 2GB on Max and 3GB on SuperMax - though I suspect there may be some elasticity.

Hi anz1066 Don't forget you also have free blog space which is seperate from your web space and it runs on WorldPress. Very handy.

If you want anything snazzy with a website you really need to pay for it although it isn't very expensive. Buying your own domain name makes sense as then when you move ISPs you don't lose your webspace or email address. I'd recommend it to anyone.
