Suggestions for network camera

Now that I have a nice little network running, I thought about adding an external security camera with motion detecting software to control recording on the PC.

What started this train of thought is that something keeps triggering our PIR external lights and I'd like to find out which flavour of wildlife is doing it. Obviously there are security benefits also.

Does anybody have experience or ideas where I might find info. (I've already been Googling and seen a lot of advertisements!!!).

p.s. the 'spill chucker' used in these boards must be colonial in origin - it wants me to spell the word 'flavour' as 'flavor' .... won't those Yanks ever learn to use English correctly?

No idea on the camera, sorry, but we don't have a spell checker afaik. Are you sure it's not your browser?

I think Axis are meant to be the best - but are also quite pricey.

Yes Lance, I see what you mean about their prices. Unfortunately I cannot justify that amount for a limited use.

Done that Rik, loaded the 'British English dictionary'. They must have missed this one - it still wants 'flavor'...

Those look great buys Rik but due to physical locations I really do need to go wireless.

I don't think so Rik. But you never can tell with these corporate machines. I'll double check on my machine at home tonight - talking of which ... the boss is out so I think I'll slope off early - see ya!

Oh, just had another thought - yeah - it does happen occasionally

... I might just try to get one of those Aldi cameras because I've just remembered that there is an old VCR gathering dust up in the loft. If that still works then that could be placed close to the camera. Hmm.

Off to play with the traffic now...

A day late.. (nothing unusual there

) I know there's nothing extra doing checking here - I built the bl**dy machine myself!

But I get the same result - flavour is flagged with a little red underline and flavor is not. It's the same with NO dictionary and with the British Dictionary installed.

This is in Firefox of course. Just don't ask me to try Internet Exploder.

Rik, I've had no luck sorting this language thing. I'll just give up and live with it.

Now, to get this thread back on topic........

I discovered that all of the kit which meets my requirements (exterior/wireless/ip) is horrendously expensive.

One little ray of sunshine though - I've just ordered one of these;

Connect one to 'tother with a short ethernet cable should do the trick. I'll keep you posted.

Looks good for the job, shame they couldn't be bothered to make it browser independent though.

I'm still puzzled by your dictionary problem, though - you don't have two installed by any chance do you?

Hi John,

Without wishing to state the bleeding obvious, you have set the spell checker to the British dictionary, yes? When you mis-spell a word, and it's underlined, if you right click it, there should be a function to select Languages.

Just one other thing, if you go to Options > Advanced > General (tab), there are also Language options there. You want English [en] to be at the top.

Interesting, Glenn. I haven't found it in the Admin Centre - can you give me a clue please? That said, I only see spell checking in Firefox, so I'm not sure we have it on in SMF.

Log on as Admin, the go into the Forum/Posts and Topics menu, it's the 3rd option down, although it does say it does not work on all servers.

Thanks Simon. The spill chucker was in SMF all the time, not Firefox.

Now all I have to do is wait for my new toys to arrive.

It's not in SMF here, John - we don't have spell checking enabled. I think you've just changed your Firefox settings.

Yes, you're right. It just seemed to be based in SMF because these postings are just about the only place where I type directly into the browser.

If you right-click in this messaging area then you get an option Language/Add Dictionaries. This takes you off to the regular Mozilla page with all the dictionaries on it.
