Is that the master socket? I don't recognise the type... If there are only two wires, I'd assume they are the exchange pair, particularly as they are connected to screw terminals.

yes i only got one in the house and there is only 2 wires but if the 2 are for the exchange why does the phone still ring with out the filter in,i thought when u remove the ring wire the phone wont ring unless u got a filter in?

Rik

Most modern phones actually don't need the wire, the extra current is really a legacy from the days when phones had electro-mechanical bells. IAC, that must be the master socket, so the circuitry to produce the ring voltage is built into it.

i have removed the brown wire i still can connect to internet but the phone dont work lol surly one wire cant just be for the bb side of thing and other for phone?

Rik

You require both wires to be connected. The reason ADSL continues to work is down to the frequencies it employs, it can actually jump a gap in the connection, while the voice side cannot. (Though I'd expect your connection to be impaired.)

well new cables and a diff router didnt work still  got the same probs as before and my net speed is now just over 1mb,that i think has to be when i removed the wire from the faceplate and connected at a lower synce rate, that should sort it self out,but am at a loss on the packetloss is all about and pages not loading up when its showing me connected to me then suddenly it come back its self that happened about 10 mins ago :(

Rik

The removed wire will certainly have depressed your profile, but that should recover automatically. If pages aren't loading, I'd be inclined to look at your MTU. What value are you using?

am using 1458 and kept the router at 1500 as u said, its like the router is still connected to the to the net but stop showing a page i dont even get this page couldnt be displayed its all white, and if i wait say for about a few mins is just comes back when i tried it again. Its just not for websites i could be downloading then it just drops to 0 then after few mins or even 30 mins it will just start again when it drops like that and if i do a ping test thats when it comes up with way high ping times at 1600ms>like i said before the router never drops sync nor does the line stats.

Rik

I think the best thing would be to get support to test your connection. They will be able to see what's happening, where we can only guess.

If you take a look here, there's an indication of the kind of information they can give you.

Gamer, you don't say which OS you are using.  If it's XP, and you have DRTCP, try this;

Leave the router MTU at 1500

In XP set RWin to 268640

Window Scaling 'On'

Path MTU Discovery 'On'

All others to 'Default'

Adapter MTU to 1500

Save these settings and Exit

Re-start the computer (NOT the router)

See if it improves things

am on xp pro m8 also got vista and does the same on both i tried that setting on xp its still the same.how long does it take for support to get back to you so far ive been waiting 2 days.

Rik

Usually, they are very fast, but I know there's been a bug going round the office this week. I'd suggest calling them.
