GameR

hi does anyone know if idnet gets bt to do this?

Rik

If it's necessary, yes. What's your problem?

well am getting loads of packet loss allways happens same time of day and lasts till late at night which aint that great if ya into playing games, had some prob with other isp which they allways said they couldnt find a problem anywhere and they would do nothing about it.ive had bb for the last 7 yrs no packetloss at all well apart from the first time the exchange was enabled for bb for 3 months was verybad untill bt upgraded the vp,but it seems to be happening again, and its allways between 11am till about 10pm everyday.Bt phoned me last week and said that we have done some tweaks to the exchange and you should notice a diff in speed in your connection, well speed aint never been bad just the packetloss part the exchange is on green and since i join idnet apart from one day at the weekend the speed is allways the same and ping times.Like i said the packetloss is to bad to play games as it cause`s a lot of lag it happens in any server for a lot of diff games and lots of diff host if aint even if its just one its them all.

Rik

What are your line stats like, what degree of packet loss are we talking about, do you know if interleaving is on or not?

GameR

Its on fastpath heres the line stats :
Operation Data   Upstream    Downstream
Noise Margin         15dB              11dB
Attenuation          27dB              26dB
these never really change no matter wot time of day it is,and for the packetloss it makes games unplayable,i have also removed the face plate and have just tried that and its still the same also tried it just with the adsl line in with no filter and nothing else connected still the same.

Rik

What's your d/s sync speed? Can you quantify the packet loss?
Rik

GameR

Sync speed is  8128 and 832 Kbps.ever since i have had bb its never synced at lower speeds.

Rik

I suspect that you are going to have problems getting a fault accepted by BT then. Have a word with support, explain your problem and see what they can come up with.

MoHux

Sounds to me like he is having to wait while his packets are being de-fragmented.

RWin - MTU problem??
"It's better to say nothing and be thought an idiot - than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Rik

Always possible, Mo. GameR - have you checked MTU & RWIN?

GameR

yes ive played around with it and check it with broadband reports and thats says everything is in range.ive tried 1430 1458 and 1478 all the same.

GameR

anyone got any idea`s on which to try for mtu and rwin settings as the broadband site is in usa maybe that could be a prob.

Rik

Try 1458 for MTU (leave your router at 1500), and adjust RWIN appropriately. Miriam recommends 1458, while Simon goes for 1500. I've used both with little difference, but if you've got packet loss, the smaller value may help.

It's worth doing, as the last thing you want to risk is a BT bill. Have you got rid of the ring wire?

GameR

no i dint think i had any need to do so as the stats on router was good,is it easy to go back in when removed how do u do it?

Rik

Undo the screws and lift off the face plate. With a small pair of pliers, gently lift the wire on terminal 3 from the IDc connection. To replace it, you need a tool, about 99p from Maplin, B&Q etc. Repeat at every socket, not just the one you are using for the router.
