Has anyone else had mail returned as undeliverable because 'host [212.69.36.147] is blacklisted'?

Rik

Not me, Krysia. Where was the mail going, ie which domain. I know there are issues from time to time where an ISP gets blacklisted in error. If you can give me a pointer on who's blacklisting, I can ask support to get involved (or feel free to contact them directly).

I have not had this issue either, as Rik said some ISP's get blacklisted, freeserve being one of them which meant mail sometimes got bounced back, but I have had no problems with idnet mail at all, also some Worms/Trojans masquerade as a failed delivery reports so its wise to check carefully.

Hey

Have always found this site useful for blacklist information, the ip stated above is not listed on any of the main blacklists at the moment.

Excellent I knew there was a site you could check with as I had seen it mentioned online but couldn't remember for the life of me what the site was ::)

It would be interesting to get some more information from Krysia, as this seems a very isolated case.

I'm wondering if it was malware Rik many worms masquerade as failed delivery reports, then you open them they have you. I know there was a time a few months back when the Stration Worm did that and there is a link here about that and yet another this month http://www.drweb-online.com/en/virus_warning.asp?rpid=

It's quite possible, Gary, and there's always spoofing to consider - so more detail would be useful.

Sorry for the delay in my reply - I haven't had a chance to visit the forum during the last few days.  I was sent this message from my old school:

'This is a test message of the HFA alumni list server.   This is a moderated mailing list.

You can automatically remove or add another e-mail address by following the instructions listed below:

To unsubscribe, send an e-mail to: alumni-off@hfa.bayonne.net

To subscribe another e-mail address, send an e-mail to: alumni-on@hfa.bayonne.net.

I tried to unsubscribe my old address and add my new one, but I got the undeliverable message.  I then tried to e-mail Joe Chimento direct, but that was also undeliverable, so I e-mailed him from my work e-mail address and that went through.  Subsequently, I e-mailed him from my idnet account to thank him for manually changing my address, as a test to see if my mail was still blacklisted, but it seems to have gone through okay.  Perhaps I was blacklisted automatically because the list server knew it had no one from that host on its list?

Thank you all for your valuable help and advice - it's nice to have those websites to check should this happen again, but it does appear to have been a one-off.

Rik

Thanks for posting back, Krysia. Hopefully, this has been a one-off, but if it does happen again, if you forward the returned message(s) to support@idnet.net, they can investigate for you.
