I like the thermal controller, massive disc cages and integrated toolkit...nice thoughtful touches.

Wait untill the "AMD's K8L" comes out....then watch Intel try to gain ground again.....its never ending, Intel this month, AMD next month....
But its Joe public that are the suckers......got to have the fastest at whatever cost... ::)

Take my AMD 64 4000.......3 months ago £179...now its £77.... :o

it is? mine costs 220 around 4 months ago  >:(

Wrong.....its because AMD's K8L is due out...which will put Intel behind for another six years...  :D

mrapoc

no its  not  :P its coz the amd range cannot cope with the new core 2 duo range... would you pay £200 for a x2 3800 which is totally owned by the e6300 costing only £115 that is capable of beating the  x2 4400?  :D

Xbandito

Hmm you must go to some expensive places...... AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ is £105 ...
E6300 is £129...
the most expensive -:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core FX62 2.80GHz @£575
Intel Core 2 DUO Extreme Edition X6800 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.93GHz @ £782

I know which one I would pick (the one thats £200 cheaper but only .13ghz slower)  ;)

Intel will never be able to match the build quality, the reliability and the price of AMD (the only thing Intel can do, is go 3% faster)  :D

i used to love amd till conroe came out..come on £200 for a fx 62 beater? It also overclocks much further...i had my amd build sorted till conroe came out and i just cannot buy an amd while intel have such a good deal going

At the moment you simply can't beat the E6300 for sheer price/performance, it does beat the AMD by a fair margin in most things.

However the point that many miss is that at high resolutions the difference between even an E6800 and a 3800+ is pretty negligible... most reviewers tend to conduct gaming "performance" of Conroe vs X2 at 1027*768 or lower resolution... and how many gamers buy the latest kit only to run it at that pathetic resolution?  Answer: very, very few... general rul of thumb is that if you can afford a £300 GPU then you can afford a kickass monitor... one of which I am blessed to have, the NEC LCD20WGX2 with a 20.1" 1680*1050 resolution.

With this montor I would not see barely any difference in-game between the Opteron 165 I have just bought clocked at 2.7ghz, and an E6600 clocked at 3.4ghz+.

I run an X1900 XTX and 2GB RAM on a DFLI SLI-DR, powered by a 750w OCZ GameXtream too.

I would love a Conroe (just for the sake of it really as I used to be an upgrade freak before I saw sense) but there is just no justifying the hassle and cost of changing to a new motherboard and 2GB of DDR2 RAM. :)

Hopefully I'll cya difference from my old setup:

AMD64 3700 sckt 754, AGP 6800GS:

to a nice new conroe (allendale) 6300
2Gb RAM
DS3 m.board
XT1800XT gpx card

and of course I'll be giving the 6300 a slight tweak here & there  ;D

mrapoc

oyu have to overclock conroe - ITS THE LAW :police:
