Hi All

This article has given me much amusement this morning.

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/telecoms/article2588994.ece

"By opting to join the scheme, BT customers effectively will allow their home wi-fi equipment to be used as part of FON's public network, which others member can then access through their home equipment"

Ohhhh the insecurities, are BT stupid? it appears they are. They might as well put a sign saying please hack me.

Rik

I wonder at the stupidity of such a scheme. No way would I join, but many will - and they'll be the kind of people who have no idea about security in the first place. Idiocy, imo.

some blurb from the bt fon site

"How secure is the BT FON service?

It is extremely secure. Traffic passes through separate channels; visitor and home-user traffic are separated. From a security perspective it is as if they have separate networks connecting them to the internet. This ensures that visitors cannot use BT FON to connect directly to the local home-user network (or vice versa). It also means that all visitor network activity and all home-user network activity are clearly distinguished, and attributed to the correct user, ensuring that home users cannot be blamed for the activities of visitors (or vice versa)."

I'm tempted to but one of these fon routers just to hack it ;)

Which is exactly what will happen, imo.
