Rik I have tried your suggestion of setting up another email address unfortunately webmail log in fails, so this is, as you thought, an account problem at least my .co.uk mail is OK.

Rik

Actually, I expected that to work. :( It's certainly bigger than a mail issue for you. Support will be taking a look at this thread when they get my message, but you may want to give them a call in the morning to check that your settings are OK - they can look at the server for you. (You are using the correct mail servers I take it, ie not mail.idnet.com?)

Yes I am using the right servers, but in the last case I just tried webmail access without setting up a new account in MS outlook. as there didnot seem much point if webmail access login fails.

Rik

I'd try the Outlook setup, just to see if it works. I take it the Accounts > Email page does say 'ready' against the email address?

One odd thing I did notice was if I try and log in using the password to webmail it never lets me in even though I'm using the correct password, if I copy and paste it from the IDNet homepage it works fine :-\ but this has been like that from the outset
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Rik

I wonder if your password has gained an invisible character?

I wondered that, I used a complicated password  ::) I could change it but if I check my webmail I just copy and paste to be honest, with all the work that had to be done Rik I did not want to change anything till things were fixed, thing is pop3 access works fine and the password was typed in by hand :-\

Hi,
I am a new user here, and just last night tried to set up email, web mail and ftp access.  However, it seems that, no matter what I try with any of these, I cannot get anything to accept my password.  Continually get Authentication errors!  Is it possible that the password originally set up for my account has become corrupted somehow ?

Message from Cute FTP is below:

COMMAND:>   [14/10/2007 11:07:59] USER ragdoll
[14/10/2007 11:07:59] 331 User ragdoll OK. Password required
COMMAND:>   [14/10/2007 11:07:59] PASS *****
      [14/10/2007 11:07:59] 530 Login authentication failed
ERROR:>      [14/10/2007 11:07:59] Not logged in.

Hi,
I am a new user here,

Warm welcome, I cannot give you an answer, somebody else will, just a warm welcome and a Karma.

Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.

snaggie

Many thanks, Inactive - chances are it is me being stupid, but I cannot see where I am going wrong    :-\

Rik

Welcome to the forum. :)

When did you set up the accounts? It is possible that passwords may have become corrupted or changed. What FTP client are you using?

Hi Rik,
Migrated to ID Net from Plusnet last Thursday.  Tried using FTP last night for the first time using Cute FTP v8 Professional.  It seems that it just does not recognise my password, as notified to me by ID Net in the 'Web Space Setup' page on my account.  Seems also that my Email client has the same problem with my ID Net email address, and also when I access the web mail page.  MS Outlook gives an error message when checking the account - Authentication error.  A little confused here   :-\

Yes Rik it says 'ready', One of first things Miriam said last week when I called regarding setting up the .com email account, as I was having a problem geting the setup right in MS Outlook, was that regardless of this it should be working in webmail and of course it was, the fact that it is not now and neither is the new one makes me think I would be wasting time and yet another 'enter network password' pop up to deal with. I will wait until Monday and call

When it was first launched, a number of people experienced problems with FTP, as the way the address/password is given on the web page is only strictly for the  NVu set up. I use FireFTP in Firefox, and separate out my username and password from the URL. Have you tried this? I know some versions of SmartFTP gave problems too, so if you are using Firefox, it might be worth trying the addon.

I think you need to talk to support on this as I can't ask you the questions I would need to in a public forum, and I can't see what is happening server side. I have made support aware of this thread, though, so they will be taking a look I'm sure.

As I said to Snaggie, this is one of those areas where we can't do too much user-to-user, as we would need information you wouldn't want published in the forum. :( A call to support is definitely the best way forward I'm afraid.

Thx Rik - will give them a call tomorrow.    ;)

Problem resolved, it appears there were just a small number of us with the problem which IDnet corrected at 9:00 this morning. hopefully looking forward to another year free of 'enter network password' pop ups  :)

Rik

That's good news. I'm guessing that something 'got lost in translation' with the moves between servers.
